Something More Than Ink Lyrics
Just take a fucking good look at just what you did
You set a raging fire in the heart of a kid
Your words and the message you sent
Are held in my heart as they burn inside my head
It burns, burning inside my head
Even if you chose a different path to tread
It was something inside
It was something more to us
It was something inside
It was something more to us
You took a different path from the one you once set
But that's the cycle of life, so take your steps ahead
That doesn't change one thing in my life
I'll never cease to keep your words alive
'Cause I still believe in what was said, I do
I'll hold on 'til the last thread
'Cause I still believe in what was said
Your absence doesn't mean my values are dead
It was something inside
It was something more to us
It was something inside
It was something more to us
A hero's fall will never change what i think
'Cause at the core of my heart this is something more than ink
Something more than ink
On a page, on a shirt, on the back of my hand
It's something written in stone
Words we wrote in stone
Something more than ink
On a page, on a shirt, on the back of my hand
It's something written in stone
Words we wrote in stone

This is basically the best song I've ever heard.
HavexHeart have changed me.
Sean Murphy YOU have "Set a raging fire in the heart of a kid".
It's about the guy who introduced Murphy to SxE. His words and the message he sent Sean "Held in [his] heart as they burned inside [his] head".
Then the mentor later broke edge. "Even if, you chose a different path to tread". But it doesn't change anything, he's not going to denounce SxE because the guy who introduced him to it happened to. Even if he broke edge his words still have meaning, to Murphy SxE is about something more than ink. It's his life. "A hero's fall will never change what I think! 'coz at the core of my heart this is something more than ink."
I love this song, and I love the fact that Have Heart decided not to take some elitist edge position on the subject of breaking edge. He accepts that it was his choice to discontinue the edge lifestyle and Murphy makes his own choice to stay true and keep his words alive.
I'm probably way off (considering Murphy is from Boston and MacKaye from DC) but I kinda guessed it may be about Minor Threat frontman Ian MacKaye. Just based on the fact he started Edge, so it's his "words" that all edge propenents are "keeping alive" and the fact that he broke edge.
Anyone know the truth?
sean murphy from verse, he's still edge, verse got a sellout from their guitarist. make verse look bad, this band is good

Didn't Patrick Flynn write this? Sean Murphy is from Verse
Yeh, my bad.
Sean Murphy does additional vocals on the album though. Thanks for correcting.
Pat Flynn wrote this song about Ray Cappo of Youth of Today, who has publicly said he no longer follows the straight edge system of living.
From a more vague point of view, this song could have meaning to anyone because it's about not giving up on something you believe in just because your heroes sold out. It could just as easily be about still loving the game of baseball despite the steroids scandal, or anything people love really. It just so happens to be about straight edge, but the message belongs to everybody.
MacKaye never broke edge... never claimed edge :D I remember an interview in which he said "I was always serious about this things..." - talking about not drinking and etc.
