First off, he rfers to singer. She refers to the lover (my guessing)

Okay, this is MY interpretation of the song:

1. I know you can't recall anything at all or why were're standing here.

This could mean he understands why she doesn't remember why she is with him. This alone can mean that they had some rough times.

2. The day you figure out your words had crumbled just below your feet.

This could resemble how when she finally DID know for certain that she wanted to be with him, he was tired of waiting and gave up on her, leaving her behind.

3. This is how a mountain gathers, purposely directed shadows.

The "mountain" could represent the stress and pain they had ignored (refering to the "shadows") and how they should have delt with the problem earlier, but now it is to late.

4. This sinking ship has information that will tear us a part

The sinking ship MAY refer to a secret that HE is holding, or she, that the other does not know sbout, and could be the cause for the "mountain"

5. Along the way we learn things too hard.

VERY self explanatory. They are learning about love the hard way, when it could have been easier.

6. Whisper out the way to stop my heart.

I agree, this refers to her giving up when they could fix the problem, leaving him heartbroken.

7. The things you used to say before the day I used to care at all.

He remembers maybe how she said she cared about him and loved him, and it mean something to him, but not anymore.

8. It's in the fingertips, I caught you looking; hazing down on me.

by "looking", it could refer to her cheating, or moving on to a different guy. This leaves him unsure of what to do, (hazing meaning unsure, cloudy, not foreseen), and how he didn't expect things to happen that way.

Like I said, it is JUST a theory, but here it is in a nutshell:

Boy finds out Girl did something terrible.

Girl moves on to different guy.

Boy ignores it, but stress builds up.

Girl asks for Boy back. Boy says No.

Girl is left heartbroken.

Boy doesn't want to give up because he still loves her and doesn't want to be heartbroken,

But he learns the hard way about love, and it was too late.

I hope that was of SOME use. Like I said, only a theory.

And if it WAS about a funeral, he wouldn't talk as though there was still hope. Just saying.

I love this song! It's about a person who wakes up and doesn't understand what's happening, somewhat like at the beginning of the earth.

This is a great song but the "waking up at the beginning of the earth" idea doesn't seem to hit home with me. The sinking ship line is the one that throws it off... I think it's a general look at one of the bad sides of life, e.g."Along the way we learn things too hard" -- Throughout life, the only way to learn is the hard way.

Well, Sadly I found this song on guitar hero 2. At the time I played it..I was quite moved by the lyrics and the melodies on the song itself. What the meaning of this song is not the beggining of life..but in a way its a good way to look at it. The song is about forgetting yourself. Its about a person who doesnt know who they are. But they do have dark secrets inside, that have been hidden away.."This sinking ship has information that will tear us a part"..

I think Sarbelas was right in a few ways, but you all missed the most important sentence of the song. "This is how a mountain gathers, purposely directed shadows.", gives the full meaning to this song. It says about how things will always purposely happen that will set you back in life. It also has a point of realization. Coming to know life as it is, in the reality. Now this last thing i'm about to say, might not be true. But there is some words that supports that he may be talking about god at the second verse, but in another sence i think that "hazing" could mean looking down in dissapointment or something that made him WANT to care.

Not to be blunt and clichic, but this song is about a relationship obviously. "This sinking ship" Kinda shows that there is something going on in it that is negative. "That will tear us apart" Is talking about some secretive 'information' on this 'ship' that is probably not best to be known by one side of the party. In general, its about some dude/chick who is a relationship with someone that simply isnt real. Their feelings are of almost neglect towards eachother, and i think the narrator is just realizing this. Call me a dreamer but thats what it seems like

i think this is about not a relationship but a friendship he realises that his friend has done something or found something that could tear them apart and that "sinking ship" is (i think) a metaphor for something he tryed to hide but his friend may have found a way to get it

Well, i feel that if you go down the relationship path, the "I know you can't recall anything at all" line could be something like "my life started when i met you" kinda deal. Like he loves her so much, and he screwed up and cheated on her or something, and that's the information that can tear them apart. Also, he learned too hard how easily he could lose his partner. And if he were to just "whisper out" his secret he could lose her and that would "stop [his] heart"..... but idk, thats just what i put together......

OK...first post here. no one can know exactly what the writer of the song was thinking but we sure as hell can guess. :D I think that it is about a relationship. not necessarily a girlfriend boyfriend or husband wife deal but it is a possibility.

• this could symbolize one of the pple in the relationship being in shock and not remembering...or possibly not even wanting to remember since what that person obviously found out were bad...her "words" that crumbled...possibly 'i love you' maybe?...that was torn apart by what was found out.

2nd...~~This is how a mountain gathers, purposely directed shadows. This sinking ship has information that will tear us a part~~...the mountain could be symbol for all the bad things piling up wich would also help u understand the next part in the verse...the sinking ship has information...the ship may be the relationship he's trying to save...the information could be the reason he purposly directed the shadows....the shadows were meant to hide regrets from his near past that the other person would not like..therefor it may tear the relationship apart.

It's in the fingertips, I caught you looking; hazing down on me~~....learning things too hard...of course...must mean we learn things the hard way but sometimes that not the only way we can learn them...therefor the "hard way" might be too hard sometimes. the wisper out the way to stop my heart.....really confused me here but if i had to guess id say.. it has to do with a relationship being broken through words that could kill him.

i agree with albasketball21's summary, also i find that using ur star power at :52 when u have a 4x multiplier helps a lot with 5*ing it on expert, try not to use star power during the solo, but on the easy parts you wont mess up on.
