The Way I Am Lyrics

If you were falling, then I would catch you
You need a light, I'd find a match
'Cause I love the way you say good morning
And you take me the way I am

If you are chilly, here take my sweater
Your head is aching, I'll make it better
'Cause I love the way you call me baby
And you take me the way I am

I'd buy you Rogaine when you start
Losing all your hair
Sew on patches to all you tear

'Cause I love you more than
I could ever promise
And you take me the way I am
You take me the way I am
You take me the way I am

This song is so adorable. It is very simple. Basically, she loves this guy and would do a lot of things for him probably because he accepts her for who she is hence "The Way I Am".

I think it specifically is directed towards her not caring about coming off too strong, the nice things she does are out of love and she could care less if she's neglecting the hard to get approach. And he, unlike some guys, isn't at all turned away by this. This theory came to mind at the sweater part; it's not typically a female role to provide an item of clothing for the guy. Unless she's talking in his perspective, but I doubt this.

I think that this song really is subject to interpretation as are all lyrics so there despite what birdseed has said, I don't think there's such a thing as reading into it too much nor is there anything wrong with seeing the simplicity of the song. I see that she is sort of taking up a male role with the sweater part but at the same time the song is predominantly made up of female roles which can be seen as how she's taking care of him as a woman would. Also I see the song sort of addresses insecurity as a person...being accepted for who you are. It's a sweet but actually not that probable, I would put this song down in the beginning phases of a relationship. If you are lucky enough to relate to this song throughout the whole of your relationship then thats fantastic. It has such a gorgeous charm with such simple lyrics that really capture the essence of being accepted.

She's basically grateful that he's accepting her and loving her for who she is and she wants to repay him by doing most anything for him.
