I cry nearly every time I hear this song. It is so hard to understand what the military and their families go through, it must be hell. And it is all for us, their families and countrymen at home. And this song has a happy ending which is fairly unexpected after the previous verses and frankly even a little unrealistic in the horrors of war. I think it is very important for us who enjoy the freedom bought at such a price to remember the risks taken by others and the pain of those left at home. In the controversial conflict in the Middle East now, where we have sent many men and women it can be easy to protest and give off that we should never have gone there. We may not support the war but we certainly support those who fight it.
I love the twist this song takes on the view of war. It is great! I think of my mom everytime I hear this song. I am serving in the Air Force and couldn't be more proud. It is people like my mom that I serve for.
I can't really relate to this song at all, because I don't personally have anyone directly related to me or as a friend in the military, but many of my friends know someone or have their own family members abroad or at their respective forts. I've heard their stories, seen their tears, and helped place ribbons with them. They know the risks of their family and friends being in the military, and being home to hope for them is frankly all some people can do. I might not relate to this song, but I really understand those who do. ;-)ZachZ;-)
