This track is a great addition to The Kink's album Soap Opera. The whole album tells the story of the star-maker: a famous artist who lives a life of glamour and then switches places with Norman, a typical working class man, to gather information for his songs. Ironically, Norman becomes more famous that the starmaker was, leaving the starmaker left uncertain about his identity. He is only an ordinary man now.

The starmaker is no longer sure who he is anymore...

Is he the magical Starmaker that has done his research so well, that he no longer can seperate with his persona?

Is he Norman, an ordinary man so sick and tired of his ordinary life, that he has invented this Starmaker persona?

It seems it doesn't matter much to him anymore.

An arrogance that high, in any case, it was bound to drop with the reality of Norman's life.
