Stall Out Lyrics

racing on a fault line
bracing for a landslide
conscious of every move getting harder
has the race gone underwater?

I keep stalling out,
I just can't keep up,
there's alarming doubt,
am I good enough?
but you keep coming around,
to convince me it's still far from over

we are still far,
we are still far,
we are still far from over

I think this song can mean a lot of different things to everyone. But this is what I think it means for Paul when he wrote it.

I think the intro/verse of the song is about Paul's struggle to make it as a musician. Racing on a fault line. Bracing for a landslide. To me, it sounds like a symbol of Paul scraping by in Earthsuit, and hoping that Mute Math will finally give Meany the chance for people to hear his message. Then when it talks about the race going underwater, I think that's talking about Hurricane Katrina. Mute Math is based out of New Orleans, and they had to relocate after Katrina destroyed the city, and that likely took away the band's hope.

But then it gets to the "we're still far from over part". I think this is Paul's declaration that he's never going to give up. He's been struggling to get by, but he's not going to stall out. He's going to keep going.

To me, and I think to Mute Math, this song is about not giving up on yourself.

i totally agree with you. 8)

This is a phenomenal way to end the album. The lyrics are simple...but the music is so powerful, especially near the end, with the "we are still far from over" bit.

"(fogline)" = fault line "(has) the racecar underwater" = has the race gone underwater? meaning (in my mind): even though you are going through a tough time in your life, God has more planned for you. Don't give up hope.

Agree completely with rocknred. Basically, life is bad at that point, and bad things keep happening. But God is there for us, we're far from done here.

The brilliance of Paul Meaney is that he writes Mute Math lyrics in a way that it can apply to whatever you're going through. Granted, he was from the Christian band Earthsuit, but he was adamant about not having Mute Math labeled a Christian band because he doesn't just want his music to apply to Christians, but anyone who is blessed enough to come across their phenomenal music.

With that being said, this song can go for a bad relationship with a significant other, a family member, or your religious deity. It's great, and it possesses a great sense of sadness equaled by a sense of hope to come. With the emotional level of the song, it allows the listener to understand the issues that they are going through, and helps them to remember that things aren't over and will move on from there.

"Racing on a fault line"-I figure it musta been Cali. LOL I think this song is about how one knows something bad or extremely negative is headed their way,but they can't do much about it,no matter how they try to brace for it's impact.
