Fairweather Lyrics
The tide rolled in not a breath in sight
And this town went down like the moon at night
These poor rooftops only go so high
The volume of our bodies is causing the waters to rise
Why do we cry out only when things go wrong?
How would you feel if I only sang sad songs?
The gavel slams the verdict is in
And the jury find you guilty for the things that you did
You're scared for your life, so you turn to the man
The man that holds your life in the palm of his hands.
And your heart starts racing like a bullet from the gun
And you can feel it in your chest, it's affecting your lungs
This breath that you're taking's getting harder to take
Why did it take so long to wake up?
Why do we cry out only when things go wrong?
How would you feel if I only sang sad songs?
Until now
You have been facing
Everything on your own
Up till tonight
Wake up and remember
Where you came from
To get through tonight
Why do we cry out only when things go wrong?
How would you feel if I only sang sad songs?
Until now
You have been facing
Everything on your own
Up till tonight
Wake up and remember
Where you came from
To get through tonight
And this town went down like the moon at night
These poor rooftops only go so high
The volume of our bodies is causing the waters to rise
How would you feel if I only sang sad songs?
And the jury find you guilty for the things that you did
You're scared for your life, so you turn to the man
The man that holds your life in the palm of his hands.
And your heart starts racing like a bullet from the gun
And you can feel it in your chest, it's affecting your lungs
This breath that you're taking's getting harder to take
Why did it take so long to wake up?
How would you feel if I only sang sad songs?
You have been facing
Everything on your own
Up till tonight

How would you feel if I only sang sad songs?
You have been facing
Everything on your own
Up till tonight
Where you came from
To get through tonight

This song is so underrated! Its amazing!! I absolutely love some of hte other songs on the CD but this one has one of the best messages! The title puts a good definition on the way of life that so many of us lead. We only look to God for help when we have no other options, and when all seems to be good and well again we forget about Him; we switch back to our unpromising lives without Him.
"How would you feel if i only sang sad songs?" Imagine how God feels, all we ever come to him for is "Help! Help me please!! I don't know what to do!!" But never "God, you are soo amazing!" Or, "Thank you God, you really answered my prayers." Or, "hey Buddy, someone i love needs some help...(maybe not you for a change)."
"Why did it take so long to wake up?" Suddenly all of your mistakes are rushing in on you at once, they've all compounded on eachother, and you don't think you can get through it this time. Then you realize why you always had so many problems and so few ways to solve them, because you always tried to do it on your own. Now, it's all coming back to you, but this time you know what to do. You know where to get your help from. God knows you better than you know yourself, shouldn't He be able to point you in the right direction? Wake up, remember, He made you, use His unconditional love. He's still there no matter how many times you left Him behind before.
i think it's telling us that we need to speak out about the happy things in life as well as the sad. we need to look at the good things instead of always dwelling in the bad. not that we can forget but we need to learn to keep going.
I agree with Patience.
Most of us only go to God when we have problems, And that's so terrible. God wants to be your friend and Savior, not your therapist.
Patience. is exactly right
Taking this in a non-religious context (not saying i don't see the religious aspect either) I think this song is just about how no one ever seems to say anything about the happy things that happen in life, spending all their time complaining. When bad things do come along, we should draw on our happy experiences to help us get through it, and 'wake up' and remember that things will get better, as well as the fact we're never alone (again linking to the religious aspect)
