I could be completely wrong (considering the usual deepness of Mainstays lyrics) but I think this could be about a relationship. I don't think i understand most of this song, but i really love the sound of it. I think the person singing was broken up with and is thinking about the other persons motives. Now he is realizing that it is for the better and that he'd rather change for himself than for the other person. In the middle he is again thinking about the other persons motives and for some reason..something significant was going to happen in october..if it had only come sooner...

i donno. but i really love the sound of this song.
