Paper Doll Lyrics

Tonight I'm like a paper doll
Dress me in what you wish I had on
And I will not say a thing
I'll just keep smiling

Here I am, wordless again
You dress me up different ways
Flat and thin
Speechless within
You dress me up different ways
And I just can't be sure I'll ever change

And I do not like the clothes I wear
I'd sooner throw them into the air
But I will not say a thing
I'll just keep smiling

Here I am, wordless again
You dress me up different ways
Flat and thin
Speechless within
You dress me up different ways
And I just can't be sure I'll ever change

Why is it now
You've cut me out
Of everything I was used to
Now it's not that I stand here with no choice
I will choose now to raise up my voice

Here I am, wordless again
Wordless again
And I just can't be sure I'll ever change

Tonight I'm like a paper doll
Cut from the page I once lived on
And I will not say a thing
I'll just keep smiling
I'll just keep smiling
I'll just keep smiling
I'll just keep smiling

i think its "i will choose NOT to raise up my voice"

i think its a song about spirituality and trusting that circumstances though uncomfortable or unfamiliar can be overcome by a positive outlook...

I think that this song is about giving up. About letting other people win and just blending in

Again, she presents these amazing tracks.... I'm in awe of her.

I also think it is "I will choose NOT to raise up my voice"

Can never be sure, but I feel this could be about child abuse, or being in a relationship where you can't be yourself.

Personally, I take these lyrics as going through life keeping up appearances. People have an image of "me" and instead of be true to who "I" am, "I" just go along in the cookie cutter world, allowing people to "dress me up" (make my decisions, choose how I should feel and act) and just pasting on a smile and relenting my own free will and true emotions to them. And as much as "I" hate it, "I" don't want to disappoint anyone so "I" keep everything else inside and "choose not to raise up my voice."

"I" am afraid to be who "I" really am and become a paper doll in the hands of those around "me".

...perhaps that not what is meant by the lyrics, but that's what I get from it!
