My Mother
Said Son
You're the one

Ooooooh Ooooooh Oooooooooooooh
Oooooooooooh
Will you
be true
Till life
Is Done
Be the One
I adore Oooooh
You're the one I Adore
Aaahhhh

I ADORE this song. I decided Im getting married to this song. I believe its about different kinds of love experienced throughout life.
LOVE LOVE LOVE.
Simple, poetic, intimate, sexy. The protagonist confides in his beloved a tender and primal memory; the moment his mother, the one who gave him life, professed her love. He is now free to choose who he invites into his life. On the opposite end of the corporeal story arc, he is choosing the one he hopes to die with. With so many people hedging their bets in love, trying to retain the upper hand, there is strength and beauty in declaring one's desire to go from boyfriend to man-for-life. This song is a moment in time; young love when people are not afraid to utter the word "forever." This song gets me every time. It a panty-dropper that works on the mind, body and soul.
Personally, I think the words missing should be "life is done". So the last line goes like this: "Will you be true till life is done?" How beautiful that is.
Ive had a couple of listens.. I agree, it sounds right.
I'll edit the lyrics, this song owns.
Anyone who loves the keys or this song needs to check out their later reinterpretation at most recent live shows. They really bring it to a whole new level. You tube has some good videos, but of course if you ever get the chance to see them live DO IT. I have done it twice and those have been some of the most amazing nights of my life.
Definitely one of my favorite Black Keys songs. So chill, I love it.
It sounds to me like it's about his mom. In the beginning he says his mom loved and adored him. Now that he's older he is returning those feelings
I beliebe pbiemans is right about the lyrics. Last stanza should be:
Will you Be true Till life Is Done
it sounds like he's speaking to his own child, and saying sorta like "when i was young like you, my mum told me this, and now i'm passing it on to you." i don't know that fer sure but that's what comes to mind when i listen. any other interpretations? i wish more people were sitting here thinking about the lyrics than saying "this songs really cool" and whatnot. part of the beauty of poetry is that it's usually not straight forward, but it can be, and sometimes even one poem contains both things that are understandable on a surface level, and things that can only be understood once delving deeper. let's delve yallll
i agree with this, although if you take this interpretation then the third verse "will you be true till life is done" sounds kinda off, kinda creepy asking a child to "be true to you" that's more like something you would ask of a partner not of your child. who knows wtf he was thinking of when he wrote this!

Agree. Am thinking about my own son, being my "love" and knowing he will grow up and hopefully find his own...beautiful song, love dan's carmel voice...is magic....
