Boy Or Girl Lyrics

Sharpen up your number two pencils cause the test is begining
Your entering a game of losers and there is no winning
Cause people getting nervous, people freak out, people lose control
and if you don't like it you can blow it out your blowhole

And the girls are losing thier minds, and the boys aint far behind, and the girls are losing thier minds
and I'm here

Check in the appropriate box for boy or girl
wondering will it ever stop and who invented this world

Now you see the unavoidable is hard to avoid
Wake up in your own drool to find out that your furture is destroyed

And the girls are losing thier minds, and the boys aint far behind, and the girls are losing thier minds...and everyones losing thier minds!

Check in the appropriate box for boy or girl
wondering will it ever stop and who invented this world

Stare into your mommy's eyes, the future's just around the corner
Hi, welcome to big burger can i take your order?

Check in the appropriate box for boy or girl
wondering will it ever stop and who invented this world

Hi, welcome to big burger can i take your order?
Hi, welcome to big burger can i take your order?
Hi, welcome to big burger can i take your order?

Seems like someone who falls asleep at their test, and kinda just fails in school, and ruins his/her future, so he/she eventually goes to work at big burger.

Funny lines though, and the song sounds really funky. :)

I always thought this song was about somone working in a burger bar and getting the kids meal for boy/girl. And about the monotony of it all, knowing that they're going to be doing it for the rest of their life...

"Wake up in your own drool to find that your future is destroyed" - Wake up one morning and realise that you're never going to do better than this.

But looking back on this now, it does seem a lot more likely that it's about failing a really important test, and then "the future's just around the corner "Hi, welcome to big burger can i take your order?"" about his future.

I agree with mirel, it's about someone falling asleep in or at least failing their exams. And ending up working in fast food.

It's got to be more than just that. It seems to me that it's saying that this test is impossible to pass.

It could be the argument that for the lower class, it is inevitable for them to pass any high level education due to schooling based on where you live i.e. inner city schools having not only low quality education, but also teaching to the expectation that these kids are going to be working low class jobs like fast food.

This person is in "a game of losers" (the entire school) and he's beginning to realize that the system is set up for him to fail at reaching a better job "the unavoidable is hard to avoid".

I don't know, that's just my two cents.

Now that's the vibe I've gotten from this song, even before peeking in here.

It seems it's talking about the American SATs - which often dictate what colleges a student will be accepted to - or even the dramatically broken U.S. educational system altogether.

Things like "number two pencils" (always dictated for machine-readable answer forms due to it apt at making easily scanned marks), and "check in the appropriate box for 'boy or girl'" - this perhaps alluding to the whole pointlessness of this archaic standardized testing, as even illustrated in the antiquated nature of the 'student information' section,...

I always thought it was about filling in forms (a job application perhaps?) and the judgement/generalising of people via the answers. Such a funky song though! :>
