Barriers Lyrics
I thought the fight was over
All battles won
I thought you'd lit your blindfolds
Watch them burn
I thought that I could show you
All that I've found
But barriers dictate all sight and all sound
I found love
In the loneliest places
Places I shouldn't have found
I found love
In the home of a sinner
Wrapped in some bitter sweet song
Let me tell the truth
Let me come alive
Let me build bridges into your life
I'm sick of being torn
Again and again
I don't need permission to let you in
You noticed how we talk and how
We play our games
Leather bound appeal to
Change our ways
All I wanted was to show you
All that I've found
No exits, no answers, no prophecy bound
I found love
In the loneliest places
Places I shouldn't have found
I found love
In the home of a sinner
Wrapped in some bitter sweet song
Oh, let me tell the truth
And let me come alive
Let me build bridges into your life
I'm sick of being torn again and again
I don't need conditions to let you in
I found love
In the loneliest places
Places I shouldn't have found
I found love
In the home of a sinner
Wrapped in some bitter sweet song
Let me tell the truth
Let me come alive
Let me build bridges into your life
I'm sick of being torn
Again and again
I don't need permission to let you in
I never meant to hurt you or
Drive you away
The barriers we've built, looks like there
Here to stay
All battles won
I thought you'd lit your blindfolds
Watch them burn
I thought that I could show you
All that I've found
But barriers dictate all sight and all sound
In the loneliest places
Places I shouldn't have found

Why no one else has commented on this is beyond me. Fucking incredible song.
I know right? These guys are epic.
seriously...its sad vry few people listen 2 real music
This is such a beautiful song. Especially instrumental. Still need to let the lyrics sink in.
I swear he's saying "I'm sick of being bored". I'm probably wrong though with my hearing ;P
I also believe it's saying something different. "I'm sick of being born"..
I also believe it's saying something different. "I'm sick of being born"..
The song is about how the dude from the band had pretty conservative Christian parents and how dictatorial they were over the women he would choose to enter relationships with... and how this maybe even ultimately played a large part of the termination of a particular relationship.
In the chorus, its evident the girl is quite the "sinner" and this song is an affirmation of how he doesn't "need permission [from his parents] to let [her] in" his life.
In the verse that says "You noticed how we talk and how; We play our games; Leather bound appeal to; Change our ways"... I'm certain he's talking about a leather-bound Bible being handed to his girlfriend from his parents (physical or whatever)... but that doesn't matter to him because all he wants is to share his new-found love with his parents without any consideration for "exits" or "answers" or "prophecy bound".
His desire for his parents just to be happy that he's found love is backed up by the opening verse that I'm sure is aimed directly at his parents: "I thought the fight was over; All battles won; I thought you'd lit your blindfolds", meaning he believed his parents could overlook their religious beliefs and be prepared to be shown "all that [he'd] found" in a new love... but obviously "barriers [still] dictate all sight and sound".
The last verse is fairly explicit that there will always be problems and that the relationship has ended: "I never meant to hurt you or; Drive you away; The barriers we've built, looks like there; Here to stay"... meaning more or less his parents will remain unchanged on the matter... and it ultimately affects his relationships in one way or another because obviously he cares about what his parents think (and I'm maybe stretching this out but he may still relapse into his childhood-instilled beliefs from time to time).
What makes me think this? I think I know the girl! :P But don't take what I say as 'gospel' (pun not intended).
