The conversation stopped abruptly as sudden whispers filled the room
We're too down to care about the eyes that are watching his every move
No place is safe, I've been on the rope for days
And the show's in place, grab the mic and take the stage

But we can't hold back (hold back)
Just give me a second to react
Life just flies past and things are moving oh so fast
That we can't hold back (hold back)
And lose sight of everything we made
You know me better than that, you know me better than they
This isn't who I am

Oh, girl you know, yeah yeah

And with no surprise she saw every side like a story she had read
Not too quick but I could guess the ending
And I could see it in those looks you're sending out
I messed things up, can I make it up to gain your trust?
All the things I thought that I was missing
Changed them around, made my positions, with all we have is time
And that's the reason why...

We can't hold back (hold back)
Just give me a second to react
Life just flies past and things are moving oh so fast
That we can't hold back (hold back)
And lose sight of everything we made
You know me better than that, you know me better than they
This isn't who I am

Oh, girl you know, yeah yeah
And what do I do, to make amends for all I've put you through

I see that what I've done can't keep on happening, had my fun now I'm safe
No need to run, it's like someone had held their hands out begging me to come
My cover's blown with the marked up concrete and leaving home is what led you straight to me
Exposing more of what we can't ignore and what its for...

But we can't hold back (hold back)
Just give me a second to react
Life just flies past and things are moving oh so fast
That we can't hold back (hold back)
And lose sight of everything we made
You know me better than that, you know me better than they
This isn't who I am

By far my favourite song from The Higher.

To me this song means just having to live life in the fast lane sort of thing.

this song is a song that i've shown to someone i care a lot about because it just reminds me of how things happened between us.

"But we can't hold back (hold back): lets just go with the moment, don't think about right now. Just give me a second to react: but then again, what are we doing? the consequences are going to be the worst part of this. Life just flies past and things are moving oh so fast: but it's not our fault because things happen, and life is moving so fast that we just have to live. That we can't hold back (hold back): we can't stop this feeling anymore. And lose sight of everything we made: this would be better than what we have right now, we'll so lose sight of what we have right now."

these lyrics speak to me and thats hard to find in a lot of songs.

i'm pretty sure that the higher is one of my favorite bands in the whole entire world.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
