I Want This Cyclops Lyrics
Two French sisters on a DC-10
sped from Dallas. Just imagine them:
peppering their respected speeches with
commas and cupids
and I-Don't-Wanna's, I-Don't-Think-So's.
It snows here in Sasquatch Country
where the criminal element runs free.
Two singular eyes spied them,
a cyclops second goes by them,
When, upon their arrival, they say
(in a dispirited-but-comely way),
"I want this cyclops."
Two French sisters on a DC-10
sped from Dallas. Just imagine them:
peppering their respected speeches with
commas and cupids
and I-Don't-Wanna's, I-Don't-Think-So's slow.
It's slow here in Sasquatch Country
where the criminal element runs free.
One singular eye spies them,
a sloppy second goes by them,
When, upon their arrival, they say
(in a dispirited-but-comely way),
"I want this cyclops."

I'm so impressed by some of Dan Bejar's early songs. That Destroyer drinking song is a bit unfair to his wide skill set. Look at Kaputt, look at this song. Completely different style lyrics then the middle period stuff.
I can't verbalize what this song is about but I love love love it.
I lied, I can verbalize what the gist of this song is. It's basically about two hot girls who are flirtatious ("peppering their respective speeches with cupids and commas") yet virgins/hard to get in a relationship ("I Don't Wanna's, I Don't Think Sos"). Deep down they really want someone ("I want this cyclops") but they are holding out for the real deal (not the "criminal element").
This song is so perfect. It's all bouncy and nice and pretty until we get to the climax of "I want this cyclops" which is totally heartbreaking and sincere. I'm amazed Bejar was this good this early. City of Daughters is definitely my favorite (right behind Kaputt).

I love the fact that I was feeling the very same way about this song and found a singular comment 14 yrs ago to really grasp that that's what I felt. In a nut, I wholly respect your admiration for Destroyer and I made an account just to reach you from the ends of a sliver of time to tell you that. Hope you still feel the same way today.
