i guess this is about Frank and Steph's dad who abandoned them at some point in their life.
I love this song so much. To me , it's more about how the family were treated wrongly, and how their Dad has ended up with nothing, because he has lost the love of his family through his actions. And they're saying they will stand by their Mother and protect her always. The lyric "He walked out a selfish man With your heart still beating in his hands But he could never ever break it He just broke himself" is one of the best I've heard in a long time. Great song.
Frank said in an interview that this song was about his parents breaking up. How his dad left them but he was still there with Steph and his mom
And how he (at the time) thought of his dad as the bringer of distruction. It's rare that they play this live anymore. But it's amazing when they do.
