My Island Home (Warumpi Band cover) Lyrics
I come from the salt water people
we always live by the sea
They say home is where you find it
will this place ever satisfy me?
N’ my island home
my island home
my island home
is waiting for me
N’ my island home
my island home
my island home
is waiting for me
Six years I lived in the desert
And every night
I dreamt of the sea
Now I’m down here living in the city
with all
of my family
N’ my island home
my island home
my island home
is waiting for me
N’ my island home
my island home
my island home
is waiting for me
In the evening the dry wind blows
from the hills and across the plains
I close my eyes and I’m standing
in a boat on the sea again
and I’m holding that long
turtle spear
and I feel I’m close now
to where it must be
My island home is
waiting for me
My home is Australia
We are a land bound by sea
Though I may travel far across the ocean
It will never forget me
N’ my island home
my island home
my island home
is waiting for me
N’ my island home
my island home
my island home
is waiting for me
N’ my island home
my island home
my island home
is surrounded by sea
we always live by the sea
They say home is where you find it
will this place ever satisfy me?
my island home
my island home
is waiting for me
my island home
my island home
is waiting for me
And every night
I dreamt of the sea
Now I’m down here living in the city
with all
of my family
my island home
my island home
is waiting for me
my island home
my island home
is waiting for me
from the hills and across the plains
I close my eyes and I’m standing
in a boat on the sea again
and I’m holding that long
turtle spear
and I feel I’m close now
to where it must be
waiting for me
We are a land bound by sea
Though I may travel far across the ocean
It will never forget me
my island home
my island home
is waiting for me
my island home
my island home
is waiting for me
my island home
my island home
is surrounded by sea

Fairly self explanatory really.
This is only one version of the song (my favourite). I think this one was sung at the Sydney 2000 Opening Ceremony, but I could be mistaken.
Another I've found is as follows:
Six years I’ve been in the city And every night I dream of the sea They say home is where you find it Will this place ever satisfy me?
For I come from the salt water people We always live by the sea Now I’m down here living in the city With my man and a family
My island home My island home My island home Is waiting for me
My island home My island home My island home Is waiting for me
In the evening the dry wind blows From the hills and across the plain I close my eyes and I’m standing In a boat on the sea again And I’m holding that long turtle spear And I feel I’m close now to where it must be My island home is waiting for me
For I come from the salt water people We always live by the sea Now I’m down here living in the city With my man and a family
My island home My island home My island home Is waiting for me (repeat x4)
My island home (repeat to fade)
Basically it's a tribute to Australia. It reminds me a bit of that "I still call Australia home" song. Anyway, she talks about the diversity of the land, I think, shown in the mention of the sea, the desert, the city. It's like she's travelling across the country, even around the world, but still ends up back where she feels is her home.
@spag_bol the original song written by Neil Murray is actually about Elcho Island not Australia.

The writer for the song, Neil Murray, actually wrote this song about Elcho Island. He had spent some time there after being in central Australia. After leaving the place it felt like paradise to living in the cities of Australia.
It was originally recorded by Warumpi Band who Neil had spent time with together on Elcho Island (about 10 years prior to Christine Anu's release of the same song).
