Wire and Stone Lyrics
Separate back down to what we were.
An overcoat, barely holding out the cold.
Like wearing your insides,
I have lost the light in you.
I'd like to take you around to that old place.
The streets and the sounds and the love.
Dividing fields with wire and stone.
And I have lost. And I have lost.
(We'll make it better when we're holding on tonight.)
Separate now, back down to what we were.
I know that I want to. And I know that I want you.
And I have lost.
An overcoat, barely holding out the cold.
Like wearing your insides,
I have lost the light in you.
The streets and the sounds and the love.
Dividing fields with wire and stone.
(We'll make it better when we're holding on tonight.)
I know that I want to. And I know that I want you.
And I have lost.

i effing love this song! it really is amazing.
on the surface this maybe a love song, about a love lost. but on a deeper level its about the seperation people, cultures, groups, siblings, parents, son/daughter, etc. from time to time face. we set up walls against each other like bombed out city in the middle east with factions divided by very literally by barbed wire and stone walls. its reminds me of the stereolab song, "les yper sound"... "you go in that team, i go on this team, divide everything, a flag or a number" and this is what we constantly do to each other. because we don't want to make a real effort to connect, to understand, to tolerate, to love. and if we can't achieve this as humans then we've all lost.
