Boilermaker Lyrics
I'm calm now
I've calmed down
But I'm shaking
Make me another boilermaker
In molasses
A fly in molasses
Nasty sticky shit holds it down
There's an arched back
There is an arched back
's got a pained look under rain clouds
In molasses
A fly in molasses
Just if you know what it's like to drown
What's that?
What's that?
What's that?
What's that?
What's that?
What was that?
Make me another boilermaker
And it's dry inside 'til a dusty wind
And each trying sigh is a trusted friend
In his pride I saw his just defense
I eyed the bedroom door until I busted in
I busted
I busted
I busted in
In molasses
A fly in molasses
Nasty sticky shit holds it down
There's an arched back
There is an arched back
's got a pained look under rain clouds
In molasses
A fly in molasses
Just if you know what it's like to drown
What's that?
What's that?
What's that?
What's that?
What's that?
What was that?
Make me another boilermaker
Strange how it makes him want to tell lies
I've calmed down
But I'm shaking
A fly in molasses
Nasty sticky shit holds it down
There's an arched back
There is an arched back
's got a pained look under rain clouds
A fly in molasses
Just if you know what it's like to drown
What's that?
What's that?
What's that?
What's that?
What's that?
What was that?
And each trying sigh is a trusted friend
In his pride I saw his just defense
I eyed the bedroom door until I busted in
I busted
I busted
I busted in
A fly in molasses
Nasty sticky shit holds it down
There's an arched back
There is an arched back
's got a pained look under rain clouds
A fly in molasses
Just if you know what it's like to drown
What's that?
What's that?

If in fact this song has a meaning, I think it's about either the singer or someone coming off of heroin. I say that because "molasses" may be referring black tar heroin which is a sticky brown substance, and a "fly in molasses" is kind of like a person being addicted to heroin. I had a friend that was addicted to it and it took him 4 years to kick it. He was dope sick at my house once, he was shaking like the song says "I'm calm now, but I'm shaking", and he said he was also kind of paranoid that someone would see him like that, which would explain the repetative "what's that?..." Maybe the "There's an arched back" line could be referring to the muscle soreness that they feel when they are withdrawing from the drug. And "make me another boilermaker" could mean to load up the foil with another ball of heroin, or the hypo with a speed ball, or maybe just to make him an actual boilermaker, cuz supposedly large quatities of alcohol can somewhat quell the cravings for the drug temporarily. Charlie Parker was a known heroin addict, and he also drank alot when he couldn't get it. Anyway that's my interpretation, maybe it's wrong but whatever.
Funnily, this track was just used in a karaoke bar scene in the TV version of Get Shorty
