In my opinion it's about trust issues with his new girlfriend because of what happened with his ex. Him and his new girlfriend keep having arguements. He knows he causes them but it's because he's "got memories" of what happened in his last relationship, which now means he doesn't trust his new girlfriend to stay faithful. She's good with his family and friends. He wants to let her into his emotions but he's scared of what happened last time. "You aint nothing like the girl I used to know" he knows she's not like his ex so he should trust her. He wants to stop fighting and be happy, he hopes she still wants him as much as he wants her. He's trying and he knows its not a good enough excuse that he was hurt and hasn't gotten over it. "Why can't I get it right? Just can't let it go I opened up, she let me down, I won't feel that no more I got memories, this is crazy She ain't nothin' like the girl I used to know" he doesn't know how to fix himself.

"Don't mean to take it out on you, baby, but I can't help it 'Cause my heart is in the same ol' condition that baby left it And I, I apologize for makin' you cry Look me in my eye and promise you won't do me the same" he hates what he's doing to her and he asks her to try not to do something to make him cry.

"I don't wanna be stuck up in this cold, cold world Don't wanna mess this up, better keep your eye on me, girl" He doesn't wanna be unable to open up. he fears he might cheat on her so he asks her to make sure he doesn't.

This is one of the deepest song's I've heard by an R&B artist in awhile...probably since Boyz II Men....beautiful song,and I agree with everyone's interpretation of it.

This is an emo song. But it's really a good song. I like the beat just cause you think it's gonna be a R&B song.

But it seems to be about him wanting to fix things, but they can't. He can't see her the way he used to. She's hurt him and now his heart's cold.

Is that what you see? i see something somewhat similar. To me he keeps fightin with the girl he is with because he doesnt want her to hurt like tha last girl he fell in love with and the best way for him to keep from gettin hurt is to basically have no emotions in the relationship, hence why he say "you betta keep your eyes on my girl" he's saying he wants to work this out and hopefully she will understand his situation and stay with him. because as much as he has tried to keep his emotions out of it it is of course impossible so now he has mixed messages... i hope somebody gets what im feeling

I AGREE WITH ABENATM TOO....I ACTUALLY AM IN A REALATIONSHIP THATS THE SAME WAY ONLY I'M THE CHICK TRYING TO UNDERSTAND AND TRYING NOT TO GIVE UP ON HIM . THIS SONG MADE ME CRY WHEN I HEARD IT CUZ ITS TRUE PEOPLE DO SHUT DOWN AFTER THEY GET HURT OR AS I LIKE TO CALL IT PUT UP A WALL.

this song's got an eerie feeling to it. I agree with whoever said that he's fighting his memories and feelings of his past lover, and he can't open up to his current gf because of the last one, "Don't mean to take it out on you baby but I can't help it Cuz my heart is in the same ol condition that baby left it". The title of the song also suggest that his heart is cold, replaced by an "icebox" where his feelings and emotions are stored/frozen up. Because of this he is unable to really love and show emotions.

Obviously he's been hurt so badly before, but I'm not sure why, to me it sounds like his ex actually died and he's finding it hard to fight his inner demons.
