I just flew in
From the windy city
The windy city is mighty pretty
But they ain't got what we got
No sir'ree
They've got private lawns and public parks
Well they've got those menstrual shows
Pretty ladies with the big shot bows
They've got private lawns and private parks

I just flew in
From the the windy city
The windy city is mighty pretty
But they ain't got what we got
No sir'ree
They've got private lawns and public parks
They've got private lawns and public parks
They've got private lawns and public parks

General CommentIt's actually "minstrel" shows, not "menstrual"

But anyway, this song is gorgeous.

General CommentGorgeous version from what I think was originally Doris Day's "Just Blew In From The Windy City" from Calamity Jane [1953]. In which case, instead of "big shot bows" I think it's "big chapeaus".

General CommentIt's "big shot beau's" - 'beau' defined by Google = dandy: a man who is much concerned with his dress and appearance.

The song places a bad light on city life. The people are concerned only with vanity - "pretty ladies and big shot beau's." The city may be "pretty", but it doesn't have heart ("..But they aint got what we got"); the city is shallow and aesthetically pleasing and nothing more.
