He lost his lover. How he loves her is amazing. Although he may love her and think of her all the time. He has no meaning of life anymore. Everything reminds him of her.

I like how he portrays the image of:

The night having a "thousand eyes" represents all the stars in the night sky, and "the day but one" represents the sun during the daytime. And as the sun goes down its "dying" which makes the light of the world dissappear.I love how they use a lot of personification in this song. You can almost close your eyes and picture what he's talking about.
i took this as the night has a thousand eyes (stars) but then relate it to people, and thousand eyes represents all the women guys check out when they have the one they love. The "night" is the dark side and the day is the good side that stays faithful.
