Yeah, "all that glitters is not gold" sums it up for me.
That song is obviously about the controversity of life nowadays. Everyone is waiting for something real but that doesn't come cause most people are faking it (like fun). So everything that looks bright and gold is nothing but a lie. And Kathleen also refers to art that has no meaning anymore.
Everything's so hyped up by the media that you spend money to check it out and it ends up being shit.

Everything is so watered down and everyone wants what isn't there, so you really lose your face to another girl who wants to look cool. Life is just, so dull right now.
I think it's about being alienated by pop-culture and society thus 'I didn't feel anything' at the 'concert' or 'movie' because everything seems meaningless, fake and put-on and everyone else seems to thinks that it's all good or 'gold.'
yeah I agree with Doobie.. I read an interview with Kathleen that she talked about for example seeing there's something about Mary and not thinking it was funny at all... pretty much that they don't fit into or understand pop culture.. like "wtf are you guys talking about, this is stupid... all that glitters isn't gold"
