They tried to make me go to rehab
But I said, "No, no, no"
Yes, I've been black
But when I come back, you'll know, know, know
I ain't got the time
And if my daddy thinks I'm fine
He's tried to make me go to rehab
I won't go, go, go

I'd rather be at home with Ray
I ain't got seventy days
'Cause there's nothing, there's nothing you can teach me
That I can't learn from Mr. Hathaway

I didn't get a lot in class
But I know it don't come in a shot glass

They tried to make me go to rehab
But I said, "No, no, no"
Yes, I've been black
But when I come back, you'll know, know, know
I ain't got the time
And if my daddy thinks I'm fine
He's tried to make me go to rehab
I won't go, go, go

The man said, "Why do you think you here?"
I said, "I got no idea"
I'm gonna, I'm gonna lose my baby
So I always keep a bottle near
He said, "I just think you're depressed"
This me, "Yeah, baby, and the rest"

They tried to make me go to rehab
But I said, "No, no, no"
Yes, I've been black
But when I come back, you'll know, know, know

I don't ever wanna drink again
I just, oh, I just need a friend
I'm not gonna spend ten weeks
Have everyone think I'm on the mend

And it's not just my pride
It's just 'til these tears have dried

They tried to make me go to rehab
I said, "No, no, no"
Yes, I've been black
But when I come back, you'll know, know, know
I ain't got the time
And if my daddy thinks I'm fine
He's tried to make me go to rehab
I won't go, go, go

    2 theories:
1-She (the character singing the song- Amy's former self) is upset about the institution and everyone telling her the "typical" things you hear: "you're an alcoholic, you need help, you're depressed, you're in denial". She knows for a FACT that all these things are true, but isn't ready to deal with it. Anyone who's been there knows that these are the things you hear, that they sound so "typical" that you roll your eyes. Alcoholism gives you this illusion of being smarter and having more control than you do. I like to think that Amy was past this denial stage, and wrote the song with great insight. Sadly, she wasn't in time to save herself. We lost her too soon. A beautiful song. 2-She was writing it from her own current point of view. This makes her pathetic, and I only want to cry for her and those who loved her. It's a drunk reveling in her obliviousness. This song makes me sick.

The reason I think the first theory is more correct is that the song has such a fun and funky sound. The horns and rhythm are the mark of happiness. There is a delightful irony in the self-realization of it. I don't think she'd be able to express herself in this way if she hadn't grown out of the denial phase of the disease.
