I think this is about two gangs facing each other, and "Street Fight" next on this album is like there fighting a street fight.
Isn't the last part lifted from 'West Side Story'? The gangs there are the Sharks & the Jets. Great song, full of energy, Alice at his youthful best. Although the nit-picker in me keeps muttering that tom cats do not come in heat, they're non-stop 24/7 kitten-making machines.
There are two gangs fighting each other, each with their own musical theme. The first gang, the Gutter Cats, are made up by Alice Cooper, as far as I can tell. The second gang, the Jets, are from the West Side Story. Both the melody and the lyrics from that part are straight out of the movie. It's not like Alice Cooper stole the song, he just took a song that, at that time, everybody knew, and combined it with a song of his own.
The next song on the album is "Street Fight", in which you can hear the two gangs fighting each other.
Great cooper song. this song was a good stage act. especially with the next track 'street fight'. i think its about my favorite from the album next to the title track and public animal.
