anyway i think this song is about a guy and girl who used to go out but now they dont and the guy wants her back but he cant get her because she doesnt like him. great song

I acutally think this is about a guy who finally met the girl that changes him and "wakes him up" ("Used to watch this game from the sidelines, now it's time to get on in and play"). He doesn't recognize himself - hence "Who's that with his arm around you? He's making eyes at you that way, he looks in love, he looks familiar - Damn, that's me."
He is saying that who he used to be is gone now because he met her and he knows now what everyone was talking about...
it's about being in love and changing who you are to be .with the person that you adore. great song
i agree with oarfanatic........this song is simply amazing......probably my favorite O.A.R. song~~it comes close to That Was A Crazy Game Of Poker (the live version from Live From Madison Square Garden) anyways.......the song is great and O.A.R. is even better...favorite band of all time****
I think this song has a pretty simple meaning, but it has a very powerful impact.
It is clear, that the guy didn't ever think relationships were for him. He just used to watch eveyone else fall in love.
He finally finds the right girl that makes him perfectly happy and he doesn't need to sit on the sidelines anymore because her love is the best place he's every been.
This is a great song, very underrated on their album.
