I Love The Sound Of Breaking Glass Lyrics

I love the sound of breaking glass
Especially when I'm lonely
I need the noises of destruction
When there's nothing new

Oh nothing new, sound of breaking glass

I love the sound of breaking glass
Deep into the night
I love the sound of its condition
Flying all around

Oh all around, sound of breaking glass
Nothing new, sound of breaking glass

[Solo]

Oh all around, sound of breaking glass
Nothin' new, sound of breakin' glass
Safe at last sound of breaking glass

I love the sound of breaking glass
Deep into the night
I love the work on it can do
Oh a change of mind

Oh change of mind, sound of breaking glass
All around, sound of breaking glass
Nothing new, sound of breaking glass
Breaking glass, sound of breaking glass

Sound of breaking glass [7x to fade]

The meaning is exactly what it says on the tin: when he's had a bad day and tired of monotony he likes breaking things just to let off a little steam.

Who's Nick Low? Seriously.

Opps, sorry Nick. (LOWE)

OOoooooooh, he sang Cruel to be Kind. I know that song! Houston, we have lift off:)

This is a really good song by Nick Lowe, but I feel that it owes much more to David Bowie. To me, it is a combination of the song "Broken Glass" and "Sound And Vision". The syncopated bass with that ringing vibrato guitar really seems to be the origin of this song. As far as meaning goes, for me the "sound of breaking glass" is somewhat scary.

@fina79 does sound a lot like Sound And Vision, din't it?

Is this not an indictment (or, conversely, a celebration?) of the (British) Punk Ethos: LEVEL IT ALL AND START OVER!!

Seriously, I think the “When There’s Nothing New” gives it away

This is Nick Lowe's celebration of Kristallnacht when, in his own words, the Jews "got what was fcuking coming to them".

In the same interview, conducted with Lowe in full Nazi uniform, he says his follow-up song, "Cruel to be Kind" is all about the joys of domestic violence. "Women need to be beaten regularly", he spat, "Especially Jewish ones"
