Planet New Year Lyrics

Do you want another try?
Rewrite some Lines?
Do you want to spend some time?
If your hands are open like mine
Underneath a setting sun
Your hands are open like a child’s
Like mine

Feeling like the first to have wasted all Gods time
Waking with the birds, they’re falling from the sky

Do you think that I’d forget
About you and I?
Well I know that I was shy
But the time has hardly been unkind
Underneath this gentle light
And by the time that midnight strikes
This time

Feeling like the first to have wasted all Gods time
Waking with the birds, they’re falling from the sky
So Under-rehearsed, we never even tried
It’s a delightful curse to have wasted so much time

i reckon its about a chick wanting a relationship with a person but she wants them to take it easy as she has come out of a pretty intense relationship.

though no matter which way u take it, i think its a great song!

This is a fantastic song of a brilliant album.

Trying to decipher Blasko's lyrics is hard, it's simply easier to apply them to your own life. I see this song as a feeling of wasting time.. realising you've spent a while not going anywhere, not progressing yourself.

yeah, i think this song has to do with time. & realising that you've wasted/lost so much time.. but i think it's optimistic. like the protagonist has turned over a new leaf (a new year's resolution ?), and now is trying to get back this time, and this person, that she lost. she's forgetting about the past (last year) and forgiving and apologising. she wants to start afresh, because she realises how precious time really is. "it's a delightful curse to have wasted so much time" .. this line suggests that time hasn't neccasarily made things worse, but it hasn't gotten better either.

beautiful, spritely song. :)

i think she's willing to give it another try but only if he's open to do it too. she knows that she's lost so much time in a relationship that never got too fully bloom because they didn't even put effort into it. She has since realized this and wants to give it another try.

to me it sounds like she was never totally into her relationship with God because her biggest passion in life was music, hence "wasting all God's time" because in the past she spent so much time in the church and now she's not anymore. her video shows her marrying a piano, so perhaps its about her commitment to music instead of the church.

Ok here are my thoughts:

I think this song is about having writer's block. It begins from the perspective of the personified song speaking to its author (Blasko). The song invites Blasko to "spend some time" "rewriting lines" and having "another try" at songwriting. Yet she feels hopeless like a child, waiting for inspiration to come.

The chorus indicates Blasko's hopelessness and feelings of failure. She feels like she is wasting time on the song - and although she is not the first to have done this, it feels that way.

The second verse shows Blasko's return to writing the song after some time has passed. "Did you think that I'd forget...?". She realises that "the time has hardly been unkind" (i.e. she can see that the fruits of her labour are finally coming together). With one last effort, she "resolves" to finish the song that night. Finally she sees that it has been a "delightful curse to have wasted so much time" on the song.

The song touches on the isolation that comes from being a writer - feeling like you are the only one wasting time while others are being productive. The title also hints at the writer's state of perpetually living in "New Year's Resolutions" - beginning with good intentions to write which will eventually be broken. The video clip which shows Blasko marrying her piano is a humourous portrayal of her commitment to her craft. Eventually, this commitment leads to the joyful creation of something new.

The allegory of giving birth to a half Vulcan Spock piano boy sounds very painful. However, all worked out in the end.

About the religious angle, she has admitted in an interview of feeling guilt of her personal life, due to religious upbringing. (In fact, she was famously conceived on the Island of Marititius, where her parents were doing missionary work.)
