Been Here Before Lyrics
Been here before
Though there's something in the air this time
Now I wanna give away what I've taken back
Run away with you toward the night
A thousand names.
Though there's something in me cannot smile,
don't wanna spend the day retracing steps.
Run away with you toward the light.
I can't stay long in the morning.
Another one went wrong
it's ok now that you're gone.
Only in your eyes a sudden need
I sympathize.
A diamond daze
A thousand strands of sunlight in her eyes.
Now I wanna give away what I've taken back.
Step away with you toward the night.
Only in your eyes a sudden need denied
I empathize.
it's ok now that you're gone
Hurry up and sleep,
to the night you go.
Though there's something in the air this time
Now I wanna give away what I've taken back
Run away with you toward the night
Though there's something in me cannot smile,
don't wanna spend the day retracing steps.
Run away with you toward the light.
Another one went wrong
it's ok now that you're gone.
Only in your eyes a sudden need
I sympathize.
A thousand strands of sunlight in her eyes.
Now I wanna give away what I've taken back.
Step away with you toward the night.
I empathize.
it's ok now that you're gone
Hurry up and sleep,
to the night you go.

I think this song is beautiful.
It's about something that is all too familiar in my life, a hookup.
He starts out the song at the beginning of the night. "Though there's something in the air this time" and "Run away with you toward the night" He sees a woman that he finds attractive and wants to hook up with, and thinks maybe this time things could be different, maybe she's the one.
"I can't stay long in the morning. Another one went wrong" Here he says that she wasn't the one, but I love how he says it, he's not regretful at all. It's like he knows that she'll feel awful in the morning, but he doesn't care. Getting to know someone on a physical level, even for a night, is beautiful, and it's part of the human nature to "empathize" with someone.
"Only in your eyes a sudden need denied" he sees that she wants him to stay. Women become far more attached to men than vice versa. It just doesn't feel right, though. "It's ok now that you're gone" "Now I wanna give away what I've taken back" He's given away his physical connection, regretted it, taken it back, but now he's over it, and he wants to give it away again.
Very nice, Jeremy, I love this song!
hmm for me it isnt about a hook up or one night stand. The lyrics seem to be about someone a little more important than just that.
I think it's about a real relationship. He talks about giving away something he took back. So to me this person he "took back" sounds like they did something fucked up and "been here before, though there's something in the air this time" sounds like they fought, and it feels too familiar. However something is different about this situation this time. He doesn't want to take her back anymore although he does sympathize.
He's tired of wondering/fighting/"retracing steps"/over analyzing and just wants it to be over.
"A diamond daze, A thousand strands of sunlight in her eyes." To me this sounds like he's looking at her and she has tears in her eyes. And the way he sings it (very high notes) also make him sound sympathetic.
Also, i think there's a comparison going on here where she leaves in the night and he leaves in the day showing how different they're become. And the running away part may hint at more regret has running away (with someone in this case) is usually a regretted thing done out of emotions.
i hear:
been here before though there's something in the air this time now i wanna give away what i'd taken back run away with you toward the night night, night
a thousand names though there's something in me cannot smile don't wanna spend the day retracing steps run away with you toward the light
i can't stay long in the morning another one went wrong it's ok now that you're gone only in your eyes suddenly denied i sympathize
a diamond daze a thousand strands of sunlight in your eyes now i wanna give away what i'd taken back step away with you toward the night
i can't stay long in the morning another one went wrong it's ok now that you're gone
(refrain)
only in your eyes suddenly denied i empathize it's ok now that you're gone hurry up to sleep to the night you go
EDIT:
only in your eyes a sudden need denied*
Thanks for the corrections, good sir/madam/who whom it may concern. =D
i think its
"a diamond gaze" not "a diamond daze"
it makes more sense with the "thousands strands" line. and thats what i hear, but i could just be hearing it wrong.
I agree with james_fetner :)
all i know is it's Christmas evening, and this song is fitting the moment SO perfectly. beautiful.
