Come All You Weary Lyrics
i think this song is about Jesus Christ going to all of the enslaved people and the poor people and basically telling them listen to me (Lend me your ears) and i'll grant you passage to heaven in return for your faith (I’ll take yours upon me and you can take mine). or something around that area.
this is my first comment so feel free to criticize or comment my comment.
28"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
Matthew 11
I consider myself an agnostic and I usually don't enjoy religious lyrics very much, but I still love this song, probably because of the way it is written. Though it is mostly composed of biblical references, it can still be interpreted - at least to me - very universally. Everyone needs a place to rest their heads and it doesn't matter whether it means being surrounded by people you love, by your friends, or whether it is something abstract as faith itself - not faith in something in particular, simply faith in something important to you, which makes you feel secure.
To me, this song serves as an inspiration to be a better man - to be someone, who is able to take someone elses burden for a while, so maybe someday, when I'm in trouble, someone will be there to help me with my own burdens.
I personally believe, that if there's a God, it's not some entity hidden somewhere above. It's something that all of us are part of - every single living soul, we share a part of this connection that binds us together. Let's just be here for each other. For if we do this, none of us would ever be alone, no matter what they believe in. That's how I like to think about it and that's message to me.
In the end - this song really helps me to find rest for my soul anytime I listen to it...
Matthew 11:25-30
25 At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. 26 Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.
27 “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
I tell you ive heard this song live and if it does'nt do wonders for thrice then there is nothing more they can possibly do. It is brilliant.
amazing song. thrice can do it all, and can do it better.
Great Song!
I think the lyrics for the second verse are:
Come all you weary, who move through the earth Spurned in fine restaurants and kicked out of church
And the last line of the last verse sounds like:
The light's growing bright further up further in
Which I think is a reference to Chronicles of Narnia....by C.S. Lewis haha.
Lend me your ears and we'll break bread in peace
