First off if you listen to the intro closely he screams: Why Won't it stop? Why Won't it stop? Why Won't it stop!
Anyways I think the Angel was put on a sort of trial. The people at the trial (what I think to be the Vampire's clan/coven) are yelling for her wings to be cut off as punishment, possibly a punishment to the Vampire for loving someone he can't have. He's spared from a punishment so in a way he is a "Dead man walking free." Maybe this is referred to in "Beyond The Hourglass" when the latin line at the end say "The guilty man to be judged, Spare him."
I also think the Angel was bitten by the Vampire because of the line "The blood we shared... The love we cannot let go. (I have you now!)" I also think she's a sort of "Angelic Vampire" if that makes any sense to you guys/gals. I mean She still has her beautiful eyes and wings after all.
This was one of the first IAG songs I heard, I still love it.

i like this song. it has a typical carnival/circus feel to it. maybe the meaning it is portraying is unity. 'we won't turn to dust'. as one in the 'carnival' a certain group of people is strong. hmm, may have to expand deeper into that one...

welll you know in those movies with the sprits and stuff, and they always are looking through old books in libraries or ancient homes, and they have a candle to light their way? well i guess it kept dripping, beacuse they took too long to find what they were finding, and the candle burned out?
