Black Wave Lyrics
This goose is cooked, these tongues are tied
Around the block an airborne blight
But looking on the brighter side
There's far less to which I’ll be obliged
In the meadow where the black breeze blows
Or underneath the waves, you are most alone
Can you hear a subtle, aching tone?
Through the water, through the Earth, to chill your bones
Looking on the brighter side
Looking on the brighter side
Looking on the brighter side
Looking on the brighter side
Around the block an airborne blight
But looking on the brighter side
There's far less to which I’ll be obliged
Or underneath the waves, you are most alone
Can you hear a subtle, aching tone?
Through the water, through the Earth, to chill your bones
Looking on the brighter side
Looking on the brighter side
Looking on the brighter side

The boy has finished his relationship with the girl. But he expected to feel more release from it than remorse, and he doesn't. The aloneness is sinking in, and he is left cold and dark. He tries to find the brighter side to this, but has ended up digging himself deeper into this rabbit hole. The grimness of the words that he has been preaching all along start to permeate, and the mood of the album reflects his new desolate mindset.
i agree with ladybug87. it seems to fit the tone really well.
Hah Listen to the entire album high
I'll fix the lyrics, because honestly, it's hard to tell what he's saying most of the time in this song. This is similar to Pam Berry in style, but sounds more like a cathedral mass song in the intro.
"This goose is cooked, these tongues are tied"
"Chin to bone" I think it is, though that doesnt make much more sense. It just sounds nicer.
It really doesn't sounds like '...withdraw being blind' on the song. No idea what he's singing though.
"There's far less to withdraw being blind" could be "there's far less to which I'm being blind?" or "there's far less to which I'd be obliged" I think it's the second one.
it sounds more like "there's far less to which I'LL be obliged" but, like everyone else, i'm not sure. and it's a small thing, but could certainly make a difference.
i also agree with mattmatt that the last line of the second verse ("trimmed up bone") doesn't make much sense as is. but i have no idea at all what it could be.
i'm not very helpful. oh well. regardless of the lyrics, the tune is incredible.
Listen to this song high. It's absolutly beautiful, and im pretty sure that is what it was meant for.
