Hang 'em High (Album Version) Lyrics

This is life in a car crash
this is life in a car crash
Can we make it out alive

He finds himself
he's lost in
the breath between life and drowning

Cauterize
these open wounds
the burning flesh the smell
of these past 5 years.
Paralyzed
with no will to move
the killing grounds the stakes
of these past 5 years, these past 5 years.

And it's more than just a loss
but it's over
we're not singing mournful thoughts
and it's over
and I can't wait (can't wait)
until we give it all away.
We're giving up our lives
for this revolution
for this revolution, this revolution

Realize
the broken glass
the caution tape the cries
are just parting ties with the times you spent alone
We have been left to make it alone
running through these flooded hallways
can we make it out alive?

And it's more than just a loss
but it's over
we're not singing mournful thoughts
and it's over
and I can't wait (can't wait)
until we give it all away.
We're giving up our lives
for this revolution

These open wounds
?
this broken glass
?
We're so individual
so individual
so individual
?
this is life in a car crash.

And it's more than just a loss
but it's over
we're not singing mournful thoughts
and it's over
and I can't wait (can't wait)
until we give it all away.
(Can't wait) we're giving up our lives
for the this revolution

And it's more than just a loss
but it's over
we're not singing mournful thoughts
and it's over
and I can't wait (can't wait)
until we give it all away.
We're giving up our lives
for this revolution

It would be helpful if one of you assholes could actually give an explanation of what the song means instead of just posting pointless comments.

The meaning is a love life coming to a end, looking back the whole thing has been like a car accident.. a horrible mess. If they dont break up, they will 'die'. There has been shitty things in the time they were together...they are better off alone and dont make a good couple. And really they dont care that its over, infact he is happy and cant wait for it to all be over and done with.

This song is about a broken friendship and a broken partnership. If you know anything about ASL then you would know they have gone through many changes from their original line-up. They have gone through many drummers; some of which include: Brett Dinovo (original drummer), Ben Newshem, Jarod Alexander and now Tyler Mahurin. Also they now have a new Bassist, who replaced Phil Pirrone and a new guitarist who replaced Nate Lindeman. When they're describing a car crash they are actually talking about a car crash. A while back before they made the new line-up, Phil Pirrone was in a severe car accident in Chino, California(ASL hometown). After his recovery he soon realized that the music he was playing was not what he wanted to keep going forward with. He and Nate, who happen to be great friends, decided to start a new band named Casket Salesmen. This was hurtful to Joe and Dan and this song was the product of their loss. When interviewed, I believe, Joe admitted that he wrote these lyrics mostly about Phil.

"Its more than just loss, but its over." The loss is Phil and Nate and perhaps ASL as we know it.....

"These past 5 years" This is the amount of time the band had been together. If I'm not mistaken they all joined together around November 2002. This song was recorded in 2007....5 years.

"So individual" Now Dan and Joe are left to mend the broke pieces of ASL and need to decide if going forward is the right decision to make. Or one can argue that its about Phil being so fond of himself that he's become "SO" Individual...Sarcasm at its best. I believe its both.

"We're giving up our lives for this Revolution" They decided that they will stick with the name ASL and now they're going to come back and be badder than ever!

"These open wounds still burn" Although they've decided to go forward they're explaining that it still hurts them.

"This is life in a car crash" One event such as a car crash is what makes life so crazy and its up to you to decide what to do with it(life) and how to handle it(life) and yourself

CantTrickMe is completely right. As a fan of ASL since their first album, I remember when Phil got into a car crash. Sad but for the best.

Personally, im a huge fan of ASL, but i like them better since the lineup changes. They are experimenting with different stuff. this album went back to their post-hardcore roots, and their new one shifted into southern metal territory.. who knows what will be next for this sick sick band.
