Oh Daughter/Disaster Lyrics

Oh my daughter
Legs in plaster
Taught to keep her
Knees together

Oh my daughter
Skin grew over
And taught to walk some
Three years later

Oh my daughter
The fragile features of your mother
They’re buried under
The plainer features of your father

Oh my daughter
Life rushed from you
And split in ways you
Weren’t meant to

And oh my daughter
Such crushing pressure
At half the age of
Your poor mother

Oh my daughter
Your ruddy cheeks will never weather
And buried under
The fragile features of your mother

Ever think of Twin Peaks while listening to this song?

I just started watching Twin Peaks and the theme absolutely reminded me of this song. And yeah, I totally get Laura Palmer vibes from this.

Especially "split in ways you weren't meant to." Holy shit.

Ope, double post. Sorry.

I edited the lyrics and replaced it with those that are featured on the band official website, not sure how and if it works...

Anyway, I always kind of found a very feminist touch to that song, It could be about the parents of a transgenre woman viewed by their parent, but it could also be about the pressure applied to women in a general way...

It also seems to be about a mourning...

"your ruddy cheeks will never weather" really sounds like something I actually heard from a mother who lost her daughter...

@SoChloedied Apparently I can't edit, or I didn't find out yet... I mistyped and obviously meant that it could be about a transgenre ( young) woman viewed by one of her parents...
