I'm Safer On An Airplane Lyrics

It happened then, it happens now.
They let you in they let you down.
And it feels like we can't get out.
And it feels like hell.
I think I'm safer in an airplane.
I think I'm safer with my lungs full of smoke.
I think I'm safer on the jetway than a world without hope.
The day came in, the day went out,
And not a bit of peace was spoken about.
And it feels like a suicidal world.
And it feels like hell.
I think I'm safer in an airplane.
I think I'm safer if I run through the streets.
I think I'm safer on the jetway than a world without peace.
Oh, what arms will stretch out when they've had enough?
Oh, when they are tired of holding up ours.
I think I'm safer in an airplane.
I think I'm safer in the sky up above.
I think I'm safer on the jetway than a world without....
I think I'm safer in an airplane
I think I'm safer in the sky up above.
I think I'm safer on the jetway than a world without love.

i think in this song, aaron. (lead singer). has no hope for anything. he thinks its better on another planet or place other than earth. somewhere where you cant get hurt

I took it as him saying it's "unsafe" and makes life scary to lack hope and love. People are typically afraid of airplanes, death, etc. However, as scary as those things may be, it is worse to live in a world without hope and love. Maybe he says he thinks he is safer on an airplane to show just how bad it is. Like, if being on an airplane feels safe... then something else must be much scarier. Kind of seems like he is talking about how the world is now.

i think it means that without love, and hope, the world is a scary and unsafe place..

One of the few songs I actually like by them.

The lyrics talk about how the world needs peace, hope, and love. I think they're presented in a specific order, where love is the most important out of the 3.

this is one of the most beautiful songs ive heard in a long time.

i think what you guys are saying is right. the song is saying that in a place which is more fearful than 'the real world' like an airplane, it would be safer than the reality of hope, peace and love not existing, or being ignored. its putting a lesser of two evils out in the open, and how at times, we have control over what is better in this world.

i just love this song.

this song is by far one of my all time favorites.

the lyrics are so powerful and true.

"The day came in, the day went out, And not a bit of peace was spoken about. And it feels like a suicidal world. And it feels like hell."

beautifully written.

I figured people would have already commented on this, but I always thought this song was a response to 9/11. After 9/11, everyone was scared to go on airplanes, but Aaron is saying that if we fear, the terrorists win. He would rather go on an airplane then live in a world with fear, and no hope or love.

"The day came in, the day went out, And not a bit of peace was spoken about. And it feels like a suicidal world. And it feels like hell."

This verse pretty much sums up my thoughts.

From the perspective of someone who listened to Copeland years ago and revisiting this song, I think I can safely say this song is about marijuana and how it gives the (singer) hope, peace, etc.

Amongst the younger crowd you'll here multiple ways to say "get high" such as "get fly" or "get lifted", all because they hint towards being "high".

Does nobody ask themselves why he says "I feel safer with my lungs full of smoke."? When he says "on an airplane" he means being high I.E. high up in the clouds = high on marijuana.

Just my interpretation. If anyone who has smoked weed before can remember or recognize, it can give you hope, peace, comfort. When sober, you can see the world as a duller, scarier, less hopeful less beautiful place.
