I'm A Sucker For A Kind Word Lyrics

I'd be hanging on their words like they almost meant a thing.
And the only lullaby I heard the sirens blaring are singing me to sleep.
Holding my loved one tight.
On the softness of her laugh I could almost make my bed.
But the racket of her absence join the sirens blaring ringing in my head.
Holding nothing tight, holding nothing tight with my eyes so wide.

In a house without a backdoor I was looking for a fire escape.
And I've been rippin up the floorboards,
Just trying to get away from this sleeplessness.

She'd be hanging on my words like I almost meant a thing.
And I'd give anything not to let her down but finally sleep through just one more tonight.
Holding her so tight, holding her so tight but my eyes are wide.

In a house without a backdoor I was looking for a fire escape.
And I've been rippin up the floorboards,
Just trying to get away from this sleeplessness.

Beause my mind just can't stop moving I think I know why.
Oh, I know why.
It's sad but I'm a sucker for a kind word.
And I'll just hurt until I find one.
I'll just hurt until I find one.
And I've been trying all the windows.
And I've been running up the staircase.
In a house without a backdoor.

Sleeplessness, sleeplessness, sleeplessness
In a house without a backdoor I was looking for a fire escape.
And I've been rippin up the floorboards,
Just trying to get away.

He's missing someone, probably an ex, and it torments him the most when he lays down to go to bed. He can't sleep, and he's no longer distracted, so she's all he thinks about. It drives him crazy.

Our author is tormented by his affliction with women. I don't think it's a specific one. He implicitly compares it to a sickness. A malady he's trying to find the cure to.

Our author in deep contemplation for his suffering. This is conveyed through the imaginary of searching for a fire escape. Our author, after tormenting himself for answers finally finds the reason for his affliction: he's a sucker for a kind word. In other words, he's simply a hopeless romantic. Lol I think we almost all have been there. A beautiful song.

good stuff

From the first time hearing this song, I look at it this way:

He hangs off of every little thing the girl he wants says; whether she actually likes him or not. Its referenced to the old mythological creature the siren, who sings a beautiful song to lure the seamen in, but then kills them or traps them or something like that.

I get the "sucker for a kind word", I'm like that too, and in reference to "sleeplessness" and "looking for a fire escape" maybe trying to find a way out of the relationship? knowing there is nothing actually there between him and this girl. anyway, very good song.

it's more so there's something between him and the love he loves. he knows there's more that she can offer him. he doesn't want out of the relationship he wants her to cherrish it and not take it for granted. he's a sucker for anything she does that shows her affection. ie: to her laugh he can make his back her abense of words is a racket. he's looking for a way out of the way she's acting not out of the relationship itself.

i'm thinking this is actually about that fact that aaron marsh couldn't sleep for a while. he had insomnia and couldn't sleep for months. that's what the whole album is about. some think it's about suicide, but that's not the case. he's trying to get out of the trap of sleeplessness. (sidenote: if you look at the CD cover, there is a drawing of a house without a back door. that's pretty cool) but yeh, the whole CD is tired. just the way it's sung and put together. it's almost dreamlike (ironicallya), but the point is it's surreal. he's literally trying to fall asleep.
