All That Is My Own Lyrics

Your winding winds stood so
All that is my own
Where land and water meet
Where on my soul I sit upon my bed
Your ways have led me to bleed

Every child will be able to weep
Every wise man spoke of him
Every keeper will be sleeper
And a guide to ways unsure

Your winding winds did sow
All that is my own
Where land and water meet
Where on my soul
I sit upon my bed
Your ways have led me to bleed

He who knows may pass on
The word unknown
And meet me on the desertshore
Meet me on the desertshore

Your winding winds did sow
All that is my own
Where land and water meet
Where on my soul
I sit upon my bed
Your ways have led me to bleed

He who knows may pass on
The word unknown
And meet me on the desertshore
Meet me on the desertshore
Meet me on the desertshore

Your winding winds stood so
All that is my own
Where land and water meet
Where on my soul
I sit upon my bed
Your ways have led me to bleed

He who knows may pass on the word I know
And meet me on the desertshore
Meet me on the desertshore

Your winding winds did sow
All that is my own
Where land and water meet
Where on my soul
I sit upon my bed
Your ways have led me to bleed

Cover art for All That Is My Own lyrics by Nico

At first I thought this was kind of obscure and maybe too much to read meaning, but I think this could be about Nico's pregnancy to Alain Delon.

"Your winding winds did sow, all that is my own" could refer to him sewing the seed as in impregnating her, giving her this son, which is all she has. Although she wasn't a good mother, Nico was very close to Ari, especially around this time I believe.

I also think it could be about sex, because of her sitting upon her soul, on her bed and that this man's ways have led her to bleed. Which could be reffering to a loss of innocence, virginity and all that. I'm no one hundred percent sure on this, but since nobody else has commented on this wonderful song I may as well give my insight.

My Interpretation

@JJKelsall thank you from some eleven years in the future. I agree this is a wonderful song. There is a sense of resignation that Nico conveys I think both with the lyric and her delivery. That lends credence, I think, to your interpretation.
