Apple of the Eye (Lay me down) Lyrics
Something slowly, Tremble in vain
The window is open, it's pouring rain
Thunder and lightning, a Heated night
Sneaky intentions with certain delight
(Lessons)
Lessons to learn, fire tonight
(Reason)
Reason uncertain, we're leaving tonight
(Promise)
Promise refusal, the fashion degree
(Follow)
Follow desire, Wicked pain
Lay me down!
I'm listening
I've already seen a true romance, and it don't look like that
Tell me now,
I'm begging
I've already seen a true romance, and it don't look like that
(Hold it)
Does it distract you, pillar of flesh
(Feel the)
Silver almond, colour in death
(For years)
Foolish desire, needless pain
(Fire)
Fire with fire, Lightless day
Lay me down!
I'm listening
I've already seen a true romance, and it don't look like that
Tell me now,
I'm begging
I've already seen a true romance, and it don't look like that
Give me the light of opinion
Just give me a goal
Swallow your pride and stop thinking
and give me a goal
(x2)
Lay me down!
I'm listening
I've already seen a true romance, and it don't look like that
Tell me now,
I'm begging
I've already seen a true romance, and it don't look like that
I've already seen a true romance and it don't look like that (x2)

this is my first 'something with numbers' song, and not too bad either. To me this song is about people who have been in a relationship for a long time, and no matter how much they crave intimacy, things just dont feel the same... im feeling the chorus, especially enjoying turning that part up as loud as i can, and screaming at the top of my lungs. nice.

To me this song seems to be sung about lust without love. He's in a relationship, but the other partner seems not to care for anything besides lust and sex. And he's asking them to tell him, do they love him or not?
"I've already seen a true romance, and it don't look like that" Obviously states that he doesn't feel that what they're doing is considered romantic or having anything to do with love.
"Promise refusal" To me says that the other person can't promise him something, obviously to love him.
"Does it distract you? Pillar of flesh" Erm, I'll let you decide what the pillar of flesh is.
this is an awesome song, and a terrific band! for anyone who hasnt got the cd get out there and buy it, cos this is hot stuuf! if your in australia, get yourself to a gig, something with numbers goes off live. saw them at homebake 06. not sure what this is about, any ideas anyone?? top song though, my favourite!!
Wow, could those lyrics be any more off? Heh Anyway, heres the ones from the actual booklet:
Softly and slowly gently in vain The window is open its pouring rain Thunder and lightning a heated night Sneaky intentions but certain delight A lesson to learn failure denied Reason uncertain I'm leaving tonight Promise refusal deflection degrade Bottle desire liquid pain
Lay me down I'm listening, I've already seen a true romance And it don't look like that Tell me now I'm begging I've already seen a true romance And it don't look like that
Perfect distraction pale flesh Silver armor covering death Boyish desire needless pain Fire is fire light as day
Lay me down I'm listening, I've already seen a true romance And it don't look like that Tell me now I'm begging I've already seen a true romance And it don't look like that
Give me the right of opinion Just give me a go Swallow your pride and stop thinking Give me a go Give me the right of opinion Just give me a go Swallow your pride and stop thinking Give me a go
Lay me down I'm listening, I've already seen a true romance And it don't look like that Tell me now I'm begging I've already seen a true romance And it don't look like that
I've already seen a true romance And it don't look like that
I've already seen a true romance And it don't look like that
Note that Tim (the backup singer) sings the first word that Jake (lead singer) sings on the next line. I forgot to chuck that in.
ie: (Perfect) Perfect distraction pale flesh (Silver) Silver armor covering death
It's a cool little tune. Anyone think it may be about a secret kinda relationship based on desire and lust? But maybe they can't reveal themselves for whatever reason. Or maybe its about a boring kinda relationship an he dreams of more desirable things from it. Eh, who knows.
This is a good line: "Bottle desire liquid pain"
agree with the lustful opinions set forth so far, and also agree that SWN is an awesome band, making me proud to be an aussie. i'd just like to add a little suggestion - perhaps this song tells of lust beyond just this relationship? perhaps both/one of them involved get around and this guy wants to go steady with this one person? read over those early verses and tell me what ya think
fav line "sneaky intentions, but certain delight" one of the best songs i've heard...amazing introduction...so good in the intro when the bass kicks in...it justs all fits....great song...thanks rtha87 for the right lyrics...i was cringing...reading the originals :)
maybe this is just my warped way of thinking lol...but i think it has something to do with drugs? in referrance to "softly and slowly, gently in vain" (or vein) a couple of other things too maybe..give it a go see what u think..i would definatly like to be wrong! whatever its about..i'm loving it :)
shellsangel you could very well be right i thought that it was to do with alcohol abuse, so drugs would be type of thing but if it is about relationships i dont think that its from the point of view of someone in a relationship but rather someone looking in from the outside...
i definately get a negative feel about this song, like something is seriously wrong like desperation
great song
