Rebecca Lyrics

Stood by my missus in the lobby.
Asked to carry bags of Madame.
Elevators rush to the sea.
Rummaged through my coat for the key.
After tea lounged on the sofa.
My lady spoke of everyone she knew there.
She paused.
Grabbed my wrist.
Said,"Now, darling there he is."
I looked up.
My surroundings stirred and smeared.
His eyes calm and distant.
His mouth so severe.
Though half his age I was.
I've never been in love.
Before then.
Max, you're so distraught.
Perhaps, I'll help you out.
Your wife was so much more than me.
But I can be her now.
I can be her now.
Rush down the stairs to that man.
Mr.Summer, he nodded his head.
With laughter in his eyes.
A smirk followed close behind.
"We're strangers but I'm sure we should be married."
I spoke to my master.
She nodded her head.
Though I was young and scared.
With Max standing there.
We took our first step.

Yes, this is about a book called Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier.

In the book theres a girl who is an assistant to a very posh lady (her missus). The posh lady is very high class and always talks about other rich, high class people. One day in a hotel they meet a man called Max, who the girl soon marries. Max takes her back to his grand house in Manderley, but all Max's servants who live in the house constantly remind Max's new wife that she will never be the same as his old wife (Rebecca). Hence the line "You're wife was so much more than me, but I can be her now"

I think it's about a slave girl of some sort, since she keeps saying how she spoke to her master and how she stood by her missus. This song is kinda funny to me becuse I have a dog named Max and I always imagine dia with a dog for some reason. ;)

Would it not make more sense for it to say; "Elevators rush to the scene" ? I apologise if I'm wrong, just thought I'd point out just incase. :]

This song is based on a book - Like many of Meg and Dia's songs. I can never find any of these books, though. Even in our local library. Bizarre... Anyway, I think you can find them on Amazon, so if you like English literature or your just ardent to finding the meaning of this song, check it out :] The book is called 'Rebecca' by 'Daphne Du Naurier', as Frankie said.

I'd leave a link, but I cba. XD

I read this book for school, so your library should carry it. It is quiet old, so it might not. I'd look on amazon. Great song, I love it. <3
