Shine through the light
So my thoughts won't
Have to fight
For your love
Just to see you in me
Hurts too much
Mind fills with the thought
Love you till I caught
Fish in the sky
Impossible to fly
See you walk away
Why can't you stay and
Shine through the light
So my thoughts won't
Have to fight
For your love
Just to see you in me
Hurts too much
High from above
I see the words of love
Decay to the ground
Betray what I've found
So my thoughts won't
Have to fight
For your love
Just to see you in me
Hurts too much
Love you till I caught
Fish in the sky
Impossible to fly
See you walk away
Why can't you stay and
So my thoughts won't
Have to fight
For your love
Just to see you in me
Hurts too much
I see the words of love
Decay to the ground
Betray what I've found

better than sex
It's actually a song about death and grief.
The singer has lost someone. They feel like the deceased might hate them for things they've done in the past or present, and they just want a sign that the deceased person still loves them. Just imagining the deceased makes the singer cry.
The singer is dreaming about the deceased and wants to tell them how much they love them but they realize they're dreaming, and they see the deceased walk away before they could thell them.
In their mind they remember all of the good memories they had with the deceased but remember in reality that the deceased is dead. They feel betrayed that all of the good experiences and memories they had that are still in their mind could come to an end.
I've slowly realized this is the best Slowdive song. Rachel's vocals reach a place so heavenly and dreamy. Pretty much no other song I've heard as divine as "Shine." The music video only made me fall deeper in love.
yep, agreed.
yer.. it took me a while to get into this one.. but that point where her vocals hit the high notes it's amazing
i get chills when i listen to this, avalyn, blue skied an' clear, and many other slowdive songs.
Dreampop at it's finest.
This track is simply something amazing. Unlike something by My Bloody Valentine (who comes at you like a wall of sound), Shine envelopes you in a dreamscape sonic-blanket of pure ecstasy. Rachel is almost ethereal in this song. I agree with Psychedelia, her vocals reach something truly heavenly. Almost completely drowned out by the thick layers of guitars and drums, they create an entirely new depth unheard of in any other song I have come across.
I don't really want to overly analyze the lyrics for fear of ruining the song next time I listen to it. I think the lyrics are better left as vague, subtle and obscure as the vocals themselves.
Shine is (simply and well put by Rut)
pretty sure the lyrics for Rumskib's cover of "Shine" are different from the lyrics to the original.
Shine (Rumskib)
I just can't sleep we'll remain you're still there
heal from my thorns now they're doing my corn feel the shattered sky justin wants to fly she'll look away why can't we stay? why can't we...
Shine feel the love til you follow let me die
you're lie just don't say it you and me you're still mine
light from the pond say when you took pain why do you call? dream we'll let you stay
shine through the light two will follow let me down
your lie just don't say it we will be you're still around
she feel the love til you follow let me die
goodbye just can't save you you and me we'll stop now
shine
