Driving Away Lyrics
She's driving away from me as we speak
My letter in her hand
Her tongue in her cheek
She's listening to Morrissey
All the while living like James Dean
She's driving away before it gets tough
Leaving me with my guitar
I'll leave you with this song
Two verses and chorus
Maybe if I'll play it loud
You'll sing along
Sometimes you gotta scream it
Just go
Roll the windows down
With this song on the radio
You sing it out loud
Send you a postcard
As soon as I get there
Drive, drive, drive me to anywhere
She's driving away but stuck in the past
Why does it seem so long ago
And it all moved so fast
A girl with no solution
Yeah you had me but I knew it couldn't last
She's driving away convinced it's a crime
That I'll continue singing 'til there's no breath left to rhyme
Too scared to take that next step
With no idea where we'll end up
I got nothing, she's got nothing
That's just fine
And now I got you singing it
Go
Roll the windows down
With this song on the radio
You sing it out loud
Send you a postcard
As soon as I get there
Drive, drive, drive me to anywhere
Do you need me to spell it out for you
Explain how one turns into two
I look back on the hell you put me through
And I am done now
Honey, be on your way
She's driving away from me as we speak
Go
Roll the windows down
With this song on the radio
You sing it out loud
Send you a postcard
As soon as I get there
Drive, drive, drive me to anywhere.
Just go,
Roll the windows down
With this song on the radio
You sing it out loud
Send you a postcard
As soon as I get there
Drive, drive, drive me to anywhere.

i like this song alot but i think that the HUGE difference between the verses and the chorus make it confusing. like i see that there trying to "scream" it but its to blah
I'm pretty sure he doesn't say "Go roll the windows down" i think he says "Girl, roll the windows down"
You're both wrong, this song is about a girl who has problems in life; She solves them by driving away.
"Sometimes you gotta scream it
Just go Roll the windows down With this song on the radio You sing it out loud Send you a postcard As soon as I get there Drive, drive, drive me to anywhere"
"scream it" means, sing the song he wrote for her that she's hearing on the radio. "drive drive drive me to anywhere" means anywhere she drives, she hears his song on the radio.
This is inferred that he's going places and making something of his life "Send you a postcard As soon as I get there", whereas she just drives through life without even trying, the easiest way out for her is to drive away.
The ultimate story of this song is: a couple had a fight, she left him because she feels his being a musician isn't going to get him anywhere. She drives away. He delcaires it's over, but then why would he send her postcards? Maybe he still has feelings for her, it's all based on one's own point of view.
Well to thesoupnazi you're mainly right. He declares that they want different things in life, but hopes she might someday find what she is trying to look for. At least that's what I think...

yeah. i agree with soupnazi. im sorta friendly with the band, so ive been trying to put the pieces of the song together with what i know about andy (lead singer/guy who wrote it). i think him and his girlfriend were on a break earlier this year, so thats what i think its about. dont hold me to it tho.
and this song goes hand in hand with my philosophy. "you walk away. you're speaking with your back turned. summer's gone and it left me with a sunburn" summer love is obviously a large part of their music. but what i get from their music is that his relationship with the girl might not have worked out, but he IS going somewhere. she might be driving away to escape, but he's driving away to make a name for himself.
I know this band pretty well, good friends of mine, and I asked Andy (the main singer) what this song was about and he told me that it is a sarcastic song about a girl. he is driving away from her and he doesn't want to look back. thats what the song is truly about
i heard this song last night and i absolutley love it. holiday parade is amazing. their lyrics are really simple but really good. my new favorite song!!!
