Some boys kiss me, some boys hug me, I think they're okay
If they don't give me proper credit, I just walk away

They can beg and they can plead, but they can't see the light, that's right
'Cause the boy with the cold hard cash is always Mister Right,

'cause we are living in a material world, and I am a material girl
You know that we are living in a material world And I am a material girl

Some boys romance, some boys slow dance
That's all right with me, if they can't raise my interest then I
Have to let them be

Some boys try and some boys lie but
I don't let them play, only boys who save their pennies
Make my rainy day, 'cause they are

Living in a material world, and I am a material girl
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl

Living in a material world

Boys may come and boys may go, and that's all right you see
Experience has made me rich and now they're after me,

'Cause everybody's
Living in a material world, and I am a material girl
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl

Living in a material world

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
