Night Reconnaissance Lyrics

Nothing is crueler than children who come from good homes
Gotta forgive them, I guess, but whose side are you on?
Driving around my hometown, I remember it all
Dropping my lunch box and Tampax all over the hall
And they said

You are a socialist coke head, we know from your clothes
You are a Satanist worshiper, all things evil,
You think you're poet, a folksinger, your a poser
A volleyball player? you've got to be kidding us all

[Chorus]
So we hide from the guns
On a night reconnaissance
Steal flamingos and gnomes
From the dark side of the lawn

No one can stop us
The script is a work of genius
No one has bought the rights yet but
We're not giving up
Every unwanted lawn jockey fits in the script
Directed by Spielberg and starring the masochist club

Mary you look like hell
Stuck in that ridicules shell
Give us some light and god's pure love
We know what you've been dreaming of
Give us some light and god's pure love
We know what you've been dreaming of
Give us some light and god's pure love
We know what you've been dreaming of
We're taking you to Hollywood
Hollywood

[Chorus]

One is a socialist cock-head they dressed in my clothes
One is a Satanist worshiping who's evil
One is a poet who starts up a band of his own
One is a volleyball player with both of her wrists broke

[Chorus]

And we give them good homes
Give them love they've never known
In the loft, in the lawn,
In the town where I was born
In the loft, in the bar,
In the town where I was born

"Nothing is crueler than children who come from good homes." Referring to kid's from good homes who stereotype other's as referenced by "You are a socialist cokehead, we know from your clothes."

"So we hide from the cunts" stay away from those type of people, and "Steal flamingos and gnomes From the dark side of the lawn" as retribution.

"Every unwanted lawn jockey fits in the script" "One is a socialist cock-head they dressed in my clothes" the lawn ornament plays the part the "children who come from good homes" attributed to the person.

"And we give them good homes. Give them love they've never known" The lawn ornaments are now in a better place.

In short it isn't about socialist cokeheads, satanist worshipers, volleyball players, folk singers, or poets. It's about people telling other people who they are (aka stereotyping), and stealing ahem rescuing lawn ornaments, You have to approach it with a certain level of sanity but after that it perfect sense. muahaha! However what is obvious to me is sometimes not to others.

P.S. I found myself thinking lawn ornaments may have stood for something then got mad at myself because I think often people completely over think things and blow what was a simple fun song completely out of proportion.

i agree with what everyone else has said so far, and i'd like to mention something else... i like the idea of giving the lawn ornaments good homes, like taking them from all the ridiculing children where they can be accepted... at least thats what i got...

I love this song to death! literally!

I think that this song is about social outcasts. And how amanda got made fun of because the way she was dressed. And that it was "always greener on the other side" type of deal with this part:

So we hide from the cunts On a night reconnaissance Steal flamingos and gnomes From the dark side of the lawn

Thats what I think what do others think!

(if you havent heard this song its on youtube.com (go here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuWTtZi-IZU)!!!! do eet)

I'm thinking it might be about social outcasts, and how they get their sort-of revenge on the people who make fun of them by stealing their lawn ornaments. Sort-of a harmless revenge. Like, just a small way to screw with their heads, haha. Simple explanation, eh? Just my thoughts anyway.

I thought it was:

You are a Satanist worshipper of the devil

and that she was just pronouncing devil like "deevil".

o.O I thought it was "You are a Satanist, worshipper of things evil", but then, Amanda mixes things up a little herself sometimes.

"You think you're poet, a folksinger, ??? " is You think you're a poet, a folksinger, poser! no although I'm not quite sure how to express that properly with letters

I always thought it said "God will forgive them I guess, but who's side are you on?". A lot of words in here are mispelled as well.
