Pretty In Pink Lyrics
caroline laughs and it's raining all day
she loves to be one of the girls
she lives in the place in the side of our lives
where nothing is ever put straight
she turns her self round and
she smiles and she says
this is it
that's the end of the joke
and loses herself in her dreaming and sleep
and her lovers walk through in their coats
pretty in pink isn't she
pretty in pink
isn't she
all of her lovers all talk of her notes
and the flowers that they never sent
and wasn't she easy
and isn't she pretty in pink
the one who insists he was first in the line
is the last to remember her name
he's walking around in this dress that she wore
she is gone but the joke's the same
pretty in pink isn't she
pretty in pink
isn't she
caroline talks to you softly sometimes
she says "i love you" and "too much"
she doesn't have anything you want to steal
well nothing you can touch
she waves
she buttons your shirt
the traffic is waiting outside
she hands you this coat
she gives you her clothes
these cars collide
pretty in pink isn't she
pretty in pink
isn't she
*caroline's on the table screaming
confidence is in the sea
and all their favorite rags are worn
and other kinds of uniform
they kid you you're really free
and you know what you want to be
case of individuality
until tomorrow
and everything you are you'll see
in pure shiny buttons
they put you in this gear
and driveways broken
doorbell sings in chimes
it plays anything goes
bells toll in rhyme

This is a cover of the original by The Psychedelic Furs. This was released on teh album High School Reunion: A Tribute to Those Great 80s Films.
It's a great cover because it's about what Amanda often talks about...a female who is easy to sleep with who is a joke to most people even the ones who slept with her. Poor Caroline. As for the title...I don't see the corralation to the movie Pretty in Pink...oh well.
I'm guessing the song was written first.

yup pretty good cover eh?
what is "these cars collide"?
The last bits not in my song...
I love this song. It's obviously about a girl who's easy to sleep with, but it's not making her sound bad at all. Infact, to me, it makes her seem very innocent.
She's "pretty in pink" because she is pretty when she is naked. Or at least that is what I think it means.
It almost sounds like she's a 'working girl', if you know what I mean. Great song though:D
i've only heard a cover of this song by the national, but these are the only lyrics i can find so i'm going to say that in the cover by the national "these cars collide" sounds like "these cost a lot" and i thought it had to do with cross dressing or something because of the other reference in the song about the guy in the dress LOL
i thought they were like trading clothes idk~
It would certainly fit in with an interpretation on the "Psychedelic Furs, The" page for this song--according to that one, some guys drugged, kidnapped, and raped her, then sold her clothes and such.

Though that one's a bit -too- dark for the time period, IMO...I mean, this was originally the '80s, when you could be forced to testify before Congress for writing a song about throat surgery. But given the Dresden Dolls' lyrical darkness in the regular songs, it certainly makes a lot more sense this way.

I Just Love This. :)
