Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen cover) Lyrics
Now, I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this: the fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
And she tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did, well really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light
In every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah
That David played and it pleased the Lord

wow! i didn't know they covered this! yay. xXx
a few months ago i found out they covered 'hallelujah' and since then it was my goal to find it. then i heard it on 'automatic joy'. part of me waas jumping out of my skin with excitement that i'd found it, part of me was so overcome by the greatness of it, and another part was crying inside coz it was SO FUCKING BEAUTIFUL!!! oh my god i knew amanda had a sexy voice but i didnt know it could be that good, and then mixed with those words and the piano was out of this world. amazing. everyone go and listen to it!! o i could crap on about the dresden dolls and hallelujah all day. big love.
I love the way she sings this song. It sounds really very depressing, but it's the best cover of it I've heard. Or maybe I'm just in love with Amanda.
I think this is one of the greatest covers in the history of all time. I love dresden dolls covers, they don't TRY to make the song their own like some bands, it just happens that way.
I like the Doll's version, but the late Jeff Buckley really nailed it. If you ever have a chance to hear his version, I recommend it.
