justin, the boy who sings this has every emotion in the world in his voice. especially in this song. it tears my heart apart. so much beauty and significance. it reminds me of a breeze on a cool autumn night. wonderful.

i think this is about those nights when you're walking home by yourself. you feel so fucking lonely, it's as if the 'streetlights are soldiers'. they're standing by and you can't even walk. you march, instead.. a lonely and solemn march.

you 'get too scared' to stay on your own, so you treat the streetlights, or 'soldiers' like company, almost. 'if i want to change i won't stay the same don't want to move off these streets' you know something has to change but you know you'll stay the same, unless you want to change. you feel so hollow inside, knowing that you can't even bring yourself to face your flaws. "i had the way out so plotted i want to again" the way out was 'plotted' and you just want to continue living your life the way you had planned, ignoring those feelings constantly biting at you. those feelings that you're missing out on something. you want to forget about them and continue with what you have 'plotted' in place already.

i've felt this way countless times. i agree, justin really does have a high emotional range. amazing song.

I think this song is wonderful. It's totally the kind of song that you drive to in the night where there's no one around except the streetlights that protect you and guide the way. Ahh love it.
