That Was A Crazy Game Of Poker (34th and 8th) Lyrics

Thanks so much for having us everybody
Have youselves a safe evening; safer holidays

My twenty thrown down in my fist of rage
And the man to my left just folded down
Well Johnny doubled up with the Royal Flush
I had three jacks and a pair of nines
My mind is turning just two shots more
There's not much left to play
Then dude walk in black hat on top, what a mop
I'm lucky it wasn't a county cop, cause I'm just running out of time

Yeah

Who's up for game two, what to do?
My wallets getting thin and I just lost my watch last night
Well I got a problem, just one answer got to throw it all down
And kiss that shit goodbye

Yeah

That was a crazy game of poker
You said I lost it all
But someday I'll be back again
And I'm never to fall
Never to fall

Who's up for game three?
I can barely see the bourbon drowning next to me
And I just lost it all
Well there's a man sitting next to me
Red with smiling eyelids
It's funny I don't have no money tonight, yeah

Yeah

That was a crazy game of poker
Well I lost it all
But someday I'll be back again
And I'm never to fall
Never to fall
No, no, no, no, no, no, and I'm never to fall, I'm never to fall

Bada biba ... (scat) ...
I say now skitili dat dat dat well how bout that
I'm coming out the front never out the back
Well I walked into the bar yesterday
Well I had something to do, something to say
And Johnny walked in right behind me and I didn't turn around
'Till I heard that sound of his feet falling
On the ground, looked over my shoulder
And I saw that clown
And I said what are you doing in my bar tonight?
Well I said Johnny what ya doing tonight?
He looked at me with a face full of fright
I said how about a revolution?
And he said, right
I say of, you say a, I say revolution, and you say Jah
I say of, you say a, revolution, and you say Jah
My God be with me

And I said what are you looking at?
He hit me across my face with a bat
And I grabbed my .45 and I said let's get out and go
So he opened the door, “What ya here for?"
I said I'm wanderin' down that Route 44
And I've been just walking for about a thousand years
Well then my feet are growing tired
My eyes are mighty wired
I don't know what to do unless I retire
So he just said would you play that crazy poker, poker
Well I said Johnny what ya doing tonight?
He looked at me with a face full of fright
And I said how about a revolution?
And he said, right
I say of, you say a, I say revolution, and you say Jah
I say of, you say a, revolution, and you say Jah
My God is in me

Where are we going?
Where do we come from?
Why do we lie now?
What do we know?
I don't know a damn thing at all

For me
For me I walk, for me
For me I live, for me
For me I think, for me
But love, for everyone

Got five cards, that's what I've been dealt
Sometimes I wish I was six feet tall and built
But that's not me
And the hand that I have is my life and that is what I will do
Complain, but not for you
And I learn my way of living from playing cards
With three wise men

You see they taught me, oh yes they taught me a lesson that I'm giving to you
And I try to live my life by this very simple rule
And this is what they said to me

You can lose all your money, lose all your gold
You never lose your heart and no one can take your soul
That why I'm not going to quit
And I'm never going to stop this shit
I could not give a shit cause I have the drop
You all have eyes, two eyes just like mine
But I'm feeling mighty funky, kinda fine
Well I drank a bottle of whiskey before I came
Down to the bar to see what's the same
I saw my man named Johnny sitting across the table from me
And to my left was a man he had no, no gin
You see he didn't even think about starting to sin
You see the man to my right, he wasn't feeling kind of nice
He looked kinda mad and I felt bad
Because I took his money last night its mighty funny
I'm just struggling
I love my honey bunny
I don't know what to say anymore
Just got to head out the front, front door

So I said Johnny what you doing tonight
(Crowd) He looked at me with a face full of fright
(Crowd) And I said how bout a revolution
(Crowd) And he said right
I say of, you say a, I say revolution, and you say Jah
I say of, you say a, revolution, and you say Jah
My God be with me
Would you watch over us tonight
We don't ask you for much
But we could use just a little more in our life

Life is crazy
I, I see things so hazy
Life is amazing
Ya'll been so damn good for us tonight

Thank you for having us New York City
Happy Thanksgiving, goodnight thanks

Thank you

They're actually a rather sub-par band. What would you say that this song is about. It seems like self promotion, and nothing more.

I like this song because it sets O.A.R. as one of the best story telling bands I've hard. It is hard to compare them to the early bruce springsteen and bob dylan but this song is such a good story teller. In the live versions... my favorite part is when he says "you've all got eyes two eyes just like mine." Though this doesn't relate to the song much he is saying that we are all essentially the same being that we are all humans.

I also like when he says may god be with me as a special tribute to the lord though I am not religious... Many religious fanatics such as one of the members of the band can relate a lot better than I can.

If OAR is one of the best story-telling bands you've heard, then you've gotta listen to more music.

Haha I love this song. It even gives you that feeling you get while gambling. Edgy and annoyed, but thrilled. Great song to sing along to

I do not think that OAR is the greatest band in any regard, but I do like a couple of things about them: I find them very entertaining and I think that they are AMAZING live. Case in point, I find this song really meh, live (especially the version from "rain or shine") is spectacular.

Are the lyrics of the song rather self-promoting? Yes Is it a particularly good story? Not really, but I just like it.
