Nowhere Girl Lyrics
Nowhere girl, you're living in a dream,
Nowhere girl, you stay behind the scenes,
Nowhere girl, you never go outside,
Nowhere girl, cause you prefer to hide.
Every day, every night
In that all old familiar light
You hold up when I call you at home.
And I try to get angry
And I try to talk to you
But there's something stopping me from getting through.
Nowhere girl, what you had you need,
Nowhere girl, all functional and neat,
Nowhere girl, in self-imposed exile,
Nowhere girl, a martyr-like denial.
Every day, every night
In that all old familiar light
You hold up when I call you at home.
And I try to get angry
And I try to talk to you
But there's something stopping me from getting through.
Every day, every night
In that all old familiar light
You hold up when I call you at home.
And I try to get angry
And I try to talk to you
But there's something stopping me from getting through.
Nowhere girl, you stay behind the scenes,
Nowhere girl, you never go outside,
Nowhere girl, cause you prefer to hide.
In that all old familiar light
You hold up when I call you at home.
And I try to get angry
And I try to talk to you
But there's something stopping me from getting through.
Nowhere girl, all functional and neat,
Nowhere girl, in self-imposed exile,
Nowhere girl, a martyr-like denial.
In that all old familiar light
You hold up when I call you at home.
And I try to get angry
And I try to talk to you
But there's something stopping me from getting through.
In that all old familiar light
You hold up when I call you at home.
And I try to get angry
And I try to talk to you
But there's something stopping me from getting through.

Agoraphobia social anxiety
This song always takes me back to 1982 when it was in heavy rotation on the legendary WHFS. This is the quintessential song of its genre/era. The piano really sets the mood. The lyrics - I hear them as "You hung up when I called you at home", which implies he only tried once and she wasn't expecting the call. I feel these lyrics intend some irony: that it is the singer who is socially isolated, though he projects that trait on the unreachable girl. (Or was that so obvious it was what you all meant about the lyrics being self-explanatory).
This is obviously about a hard to reach person, it’s up to you if you would like to take it literal or as a metaphor to a person that you can’t seem to be able to connect on higher level *my favorite song!!!
One of my alltime favs...! Absolutely brilliant.... The 12" Version is the best! Reminds me always @ the lovely 80s... ;-)
Well i'm first to comment on a song that is a classic 80's hit. However not too well-known, is it contradictory to say that this song is a well known obscure song? At the clubs... one crowd favourite. The lyrics are self explanatory. Great song from an unknown band. I wish they put out more song of this caliber.
i think its... "you hang up when i call you at home." "and i try to get through"
but yea, this song is awesome. good music and the lyrics are straight to the point.
i've always thought of myself as the nowhere girl.. its a great song
the 12" version is the best.

Wow, I can't believe this song is so unknown. I absolutely love love love it and looked a certain version of it for years, then came upon it Music Trader. It was an old used copy of JUST SAY YESTERDAY, a compilation that also had "Kiss me with your mouth" on it. That's the only 2 songs I knew. This was of course before things like Itunes and downloading music. It's when you actually had to go out and search for stuff. Because of all of this, I hold this cd and song very close to my heart.
