Chelsea is a dependent girl, who he is not really into. She keeps trying to rope him in, but he hates that about her. He doesn't quite understand why she's so into him since he's kind of a douchebag to her. She just sticks around like a pathetic dog, which is why he pities her. Tina is another girl at a bar/gig who he finds very attractive and gets lost on the whole "what's your name?" routine when meeting someone. The more into Tina he seems, the more angry that Chelsea becomes. Tina may also be Chelsea's friend that she brings. Hence, when he says "though she's not my kind of friend," what he means is that he'd like to be more than just friends w/ Tina. Tina is not just one of his guy friends.
That's my take on it at least.
