Party Pit Lyrics

i guess i met her at the party pit
she said those kids she's with were sellin' it
and so we sailed off on some separate trips
and she got pinned down at the party pit
i went away to school that fall
she stuck around with all those stick-pin dolls
sped through the scene until the engine stalled
some suburban shopping mall

sailed away on such separate trips
and she got pinned down at the party pit
sailed away on such separate trips
and she got pinned down at the party pit

i came back to start a band, of course
i saw her walking through the crystal court
she made a scene by the revolving doors
she's gonna walk around and drink some more
so i walked across that grain belt bridge
in a brand new Minneapolis
she said "i think of all those things I did
with just momentum from the party pit"

sailed away on such separate trips
and she got pinned down at the party pit
sailed away on such separate trips
and she got pinned down at the party pit
sailed away on such separate trips
and she got pinned down at the party pit
sailed away on such separate trips
and she got pinned down and I'm pretty sure we kissed

and i'm pretty sure we kissed

gonna walk around and drink some more

gonna walk around, gonna walk around, gonna walk around and drink some more

to me its about how one incident can shape people's lives differently. this girl at the party pit's life went downhill, she got "pinned down" to the town and the drugs ("those kids she's with were selling it"), whereas another guy went off to college or whatever, they literally "sailed off on some separate trips". im probably stating the obvious, but oh well. the hold steady rule, they were awesome at reading

actually it'd be "grain belt bridge" you know, the grain belt brewery in Mpls. Oh, how i love Minneapolis references in songs.

I thought this song was about a party pit like in a casino until I read somewhere that it's about a party in a rock quarry or something in Minnesota. So I guess that's their version of my adolescent nights growing up in New Jersey partying in the woods...yeah...I get it...

Craig Finn: "The Party Pit was somewhere I really would go in Minnesota. I don't know if it's there anymore. It was kind of like you'd go back in the woods and there was this big hole, maybe a quarry or something. It certainly wasn't an active quarry, but you could go back there and drink. There were a lot of high school parties there. The cops totally knew about it, though, so the parties would only last like 10 minutes. I'm really a fan of that song. It talks a lot about being evolved in punk rock and hardcore and all that shit but also partying."

It's supposed to be a sort of tribute to Chesterfield King by Jawbreaker.

I really like this song, but it's not my favorite. Still blows away most of new music.

Hennepin bridge fuck yeah son!

Craig Finn can name drop places in the Twin Cities area all day and I'll be happy...

Can users not edit lyrics once they're posted? If you can somebody's gotta change it to Grain Belt bridge... the rest looks good tho

It should also be "stick-thin dolls" not "stick-pin dolls"

I understand what you're saying with stick-thin dolls, but it's definitely stick-pin dolls. Looking at lyrics sheet right now.

Also, it's "into bright new Minneapolis."

For me this is one of the more like-able songs. I like the hook in at end of the song:

"Gonna walk around and drink some more gonna walk around, gonna walk around, gonna walk around and drink some more"

This is the part of the song that stays with me.

My Opinion
