All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues Lyrics

(My father's sins are out tonight)
(My father's sins are out tonight)

I haven't seen him in years
I haven't seen him in years

(My mother's sins are out tonight)
(My mother's sins are out tonight)

I haven't loved her in years
I haven't loved her in years

But to those for loneliness sometimes it just makes so much sense
(Here's a toast for loneliness sometimes it just makes so much sense)
For every night I drink alone I'm happier than I could have ever known
(Every night I drink alone and I'm happier than I could have ever known)

(My father's sins are out tonight)
(My father's sins are out tonight)

My skin is on the run
My skin is on the run

(My father's sins are out tonight)
(My father's sins are out tonight)

My skin is on the run
My skin is on the run

I'm not waiting
I'm not waiting

But to those for loneliness sometimes it just makes so much sense
(Here's a toast for loneliness sometimes it just makes so much sense)
For every night I drink alone I'm happier than I could have ever known
(Every night I drink alone and I'm happier than I could have ever known)

I'm not waiting
I'm not waiting

Invent dreams upon my paper wings (upon my paper wings)
People flying isn't just for kings (isn't just for kings)
I take the stairs to the very top floor (very top floor)
I paid the super to leave open the door (leave open the door)
A perfect sunset is sinking in the sky (sinking in the sky)
I know my body is ready to fly (is ready to fly)
I start the countdown backwards at ten (backwards at ten)
When I reach one my sentiment will end (sentiment will end)

Falling down as windows pass I start to cry
And curse the day my parents laid
In a bed over the steps where love was made
Please mark my grave "Unknown"

But to those for loneliness sometimes it just makes so much sense
(Here's a toast for loneliness sometimes it just makes so much sense)
For every night I drink alone I'm happier than I could have ever known
(Every night I drink alone and I'm happier than I could have ever known)

this whole cd is about loosing your life, and faith, and eventually killing yourself. when we have 'negative space' after this song, that is him falling from the top of the building. then priest and the matador is about him finally dying.

i love this whole album, and even though the entire thing is about suicide, i listened to it in order to prevent myself from giving in to attempt suicide.

love this band, they've gotten me through a lot, and i love that there are enough fans to care about the lyrics. :)

I'm fairly certain this song is based on an episode of the same name from the show "Lost". This episode, among other things, portrayed Jack (Matthew Fox), one of the main characters, as he battled his inner demons relating back to his father.

Okay idiots. First off, that episode of Lost came out in 2007 or 2008 and the album "Still Searching" came out in 2006 therefore, the song was out before the episode of lost. Secondly, these lyrics are incorrect in more than one place and its so aggravating that a web site that offers lyrics cannot even get them right.

lol you're the idiot. Season 1 of Lost which includes this episode began airing September 22, 2004 and ended May 25, 2005, which means it was clearly out before Still Searching was released, dumbass.

instead of 'invent dreams' its 'i'm betting dreams' like, he's putting his dreams out to test them, but they probably won't survive...

its 'because flying isn't just for kings' like, the rich arent' the only ones who can try out their dreams.

and instead of 'when i reach one my sentiment will end' its 'when i reach one my family name will end' because he is killing himself, and being the only son, his family name won't go on.

and instead of 'in a bed over the steps where love was made' it is 'in a bed of hopelessness, where i was...

i think it's awesome that this song & the priest and the matador are connected with one another.

i love how this has the same name as an episode of lost

i've never seen lost but it could very easily relate to buddy seing as how he lost his father at a young age.

metzor, you could be right, but I think the song was probably named after it because they deal with the same thing. I don't think the song is about the episode.

My opinion is that the episode struck a chord in him or he related to it pretty strongly, and so he wrote a song about his experiences that were similar to what went on in the show. Although, there are plenty of artists who write songs based purely on tv or movies. Your guess is as good as mine, I was merely pointing out the correlation.

Or it could be about suicide. This whole album is about losing faith, and then searching for a reason to live. The rapture starts the album off with the singers revelation that he doesnt believe in good, followed by disgust (sick or sane). Then the song shrak attack comes on, which discusses how the singer goes through therapy and it doesnt help him. He becomes more and more lost in life (lost and found). Finally, his girlfriend ( his last symbol of faithfulness) decides to leave him. he promises to pray if she stays, but she leaves. then this song is a drunken series of thouhts to himself, finally concluded by him climbing up to the roof, counting back from ten, and jumping. the album closes with the singers final thoughts and observations as he dies. just because a lost episode has the same title doesnt force the song to directly relate to lost.
